Ringing In Our Resolutions: 2015 New Year’s Resolution — A Spiritual Spa Morning with John Morton

Three days into 2015, nearly 600 participants joined around the globe to ponder their intentions for this freshly delivered year at the ninth annual New Year’s Resolution Spiritual Spa Morning. Sponsored by Peace Theological Seminary, the event was, as always, masterfully facilitated by MSIA’s spiritual director John Morton at Peace Awareness Labyrinth & Gardens (also known as Prana).

Approximately 135 hardy souls braved Los Angeles’s unusually brisk morning temperatures to gather at Prana with another 443 (including 60 Spanish speakers) tuned in online from all over the United States, as well as Canada, France, United Kingdom, Australia, Colombia, Spain, Chile, Brazil, Argentina and Colombia.

As Mistress of Ceremonies, Leigh Taylor-Young Morton welcomed everyone warmly, called forward the Light, shared a variety of announcements and introduced two Moment of Peace videos featuring MSIA’s much-beloved founder John-Roger, before inviting her husband John Morton to present the workshop.

In true Traveler fashion, John began by musing about how the task of condensing spiritual essence into physical reality is akin to running an obstacle course or solving a puzzle…and that challenges such as these can bring out the best in us. He segued to the cyclical nature of things—days, seasons, years—and the value of enduring to the end through continual movement. John wryly observed that he often takes us “from the obvious to the transcendent.”

He challenged those present and anyone watching in the future to capture our Resolution, Commitment, Devotion, Dedication, Consecration and Celebration in order to extend it into our lives, not just throughout the coming year, but during our lifetime and even beyond, as “divine nature transcends this world.” After reviewing the New Year’s Resolution Journal, which described each of the above aspects, he asked participants to break into groups of 4 to share their intentions in all of these areas with each other. Even those online had the option to connect with groups via the magic of technology.

Following a short sharing/Q&A session, John sealed everyone’s resolutions with Grace through a special Blessing for 2015. The formal part of the workshop ended with a vibrational healing performance by virtuoso viola violinist Tony Selvage. The in-person attendees were then guided by John to walk the stone Labyrinth outside under sunny skies that had heated up considerably.

A deliciously eclectic brunch rounded out the Spiritual Spa Morning, featuring such mouthwatering dishes as: gluten-free stuffed pancakes with blackberry jam, butter and syrup; egg and cheese quesadillas; chili rellenos; chicken apple sausage; grilled asparagus; fruit skewers; salad; Jello with shredded carrots; and tiramisu, accompanied by tea and coffee. Another beautiful New Year’s celebration on the books at Prana!
