Speak Kind Words

This article by John-Roger, DSS, was first published in the New Day Herald– September 1990.

There is a legend about the Gordian knot, a knot so intricate that no one could untie it. Another part of the legend says that a great knight cut through the knot with one stroke of his sword. Travelers come forward with the sword of truth and cut through your knot. They’re not necessarily going to be popular; they’re just getting you unwound. Half of that knot is the mind; the other half is the Soul, but they are so intertwined that the mind and the Soul can’t separate to see themselves.

Therefore, when you go to see your Soul, most of you just see your thoughts and nothing else. So you say, “There’s nothing else. If there were, I would be able to see it.” You can’t see the Soul’s existence because it’s wrapped up in you. But your Soul is what keeps you alive, not your mind. The mind, as strong as it may sometimes seem, is not dependable. The Soul is solid ground.

The mind often seems to win because the Soul is the spiritual warrior, and the mind is the physical armored warrior that will destroy and wreak havoc and vengeance and set loose the dogs of war on yourself and others. The spiritual warrior withholds the striking, knowing full well that the karma in process is going to strike them enough.

If people try to antagonize you, to get you to strike at them, you say, “Satan, get thou behind me. If I strike, I fall.” There are a lot of people who would love to have me strike at them so they could say, “See,” and I would fall. It may happen to you, too, that if you strike, you fall. But there’s a Traveler that will pick you up.

Imagine that you lowered yourself over a huge cliff by a rope tied around your waist and are hanging there. Say you then take out your knife and go to strike at somebody, but you miss and hit the rope. That’s what you do to yourself when you strike out at others. So you don’t do that. You take the knives and drop them, just in case you get tempted, because you’re really going to kill yourself.

When they hit at you and hit at you and hit at you, you just absorb the hits because one day they’re going to get tired of swinging. You might be a little bloody and beaten up, but you’ll survive. And then when they say, “Help,” you’re one of those who show up to help them. The reason they can turn inside from their darkness to their own light is because you just kept your body on the line, absorbing the negativity and not striking back.

Often there’s no reason to love people, and you still love them because you love. And you keep focused on what you’re here to do. Your spiritual work is to constantly keep in line with your own soulic destiny, which is to see the face of God and to love God in all things. Your work here on this level is to be loving and caring and to share that. It’s living a life of health, wealth, and happiness as well as you can. With that, you share in the prosperity, abundance, and riches.

So when you’re with people, just present your heart. Don’t put it out on your sleeve because there are people who love to whack it. Keep it within you and present it with your whole beingness. Just look at the other person. Don’t stare them down. Look away once in a while, and let them win often. Sit down and eat with them. Because, you see, everyone has something beautiful and wonderful to give. It just happens to be you.

Meet together in groups. Go to ministers meetings for the planet. Meet together in your own communities for spiritual exercises. Stay in good fellowship and good company with those who are going the same direction, for your Soul’s edification. Those who are going in another direction-just salute them as noble Souls who are going to have a time finding out what life is, because, you see, we did that, too.

Some of you now studying in MSIA are going to go back into it again because you’re not sure if you remember what happened before. You’ll know this time. It isn’t necessary, but if you choose it, the Spirit will assist you in it like you can’t believe, because the Spirit sees all of it with the same indifference. It just loves, so it allows you to do what you want to do.

Spiritual warriors just love and let you do what you want to do. And they also do what they want to do-with you or without you, with your help or with your disagreement, but never meaning to hurt or harm. So let us all speak kind words to each other, at home, especially, or wherever we may be, because kind words are the sweet sounds of the Soul.

John-Roger
