A Wedding at a Soul Awareness Seminar

There’s a lot of flexibility within the format of an MSIA Seminar – even for a wedding!

Fernando Mercado was scheduled to lead our usual Wednesday Spanish Seminar at the Peace Awareness Labyrinth and Gardens when on Monday, he received a call from Cesar Esquite, a member of our LA community, saying that he and his fiancé Myriam were getting married. Having both had previous relationships, Cesar mentioned how theirs is so unique because of how they practice the Teachings in the relationship and in the loving and caring they share with each other. For this reason, their dream was to get married at an MSIA seminar and … they wanted to get married in two days, in the Wednesday seminar.

Cesar asked Fernando if he would marry them (Fernando is a minister in addition to being a Seminar Leader), and he requested that he and Myriam be able to exchange their rings and say something to each other during the seminar.

I have been a Seminar Leader for some blessed 25 years and to me, what Fernando did is what can happen when a Seminar Leader has the clarity of both following the structure of the seminar and letting the Spirit do the work.

On Wednesday, there were around 30 people in attendance at the seminar, with Cesar right in the first row. Myriam was radiant as a bride; she came into the room and walked past an audience of clapping seminar participants to sit near Cesar. Fernando then started the seminar.

He announced this was an MSIA seminar and asked if there was anyone new to MSIA. There was a new person  , so Fernando explained the principles of MSIA and the Traveler’s teachings based on the loving, dedication, caring and responsibility that had united these two love buds. Then bride and groom each shared what their relationship is for them, made their vows and exchanged rings.

Fernando then said that it was time for all of the audience to do their contribution as well – and he asked that we extend our hands to the couple and say a quality or qualities that we would like to wish for the couple in their marriage.

It was such a sweet and loving moment!

He did the consecration of the marriage and then we all listened to John-Roger’s White Light Meditation.

This time, instead of our traditional cookies following the seminar, we shared a cake that the newly-married couple had brought.

I was really moved by it all and especially by how the teachings and our lives can be one, if we so choose, and how the sublime and sacred of our ministry can extend and touch our lives and other lives.

God Bless us All.
