Opportunity to Volunteer as Docent at PAL&G (4 to 20 hours per month)
As volunteer docents, we welcome visitors to PAL&G and share the MSIA teachings with sensitivity toward each visitor individually. We also talk about the history of the property, instruct visitors on how to walk the labyrinth and escort them through the gardens, emphasizing the value of spending quiet time in the meditation garden.
Essential Functions:
Share basic information about MSIA, J-R, John Morton, current use of property
Share basic information about history of property
Teach method of walking the labyrinth
Explain use of meditation garden
Explain why PAL&G is open to the public
Skills/Qualifications
Is an MSIA Discourse subscriber
Must have a natural ability to share information appropriate to the situation with loving and enthusiasm
Demonstrates excellence in communicating the teachings in a neutral way
Works well with others (reception, greeter and other docents)
Is clearly aligned with MSIA’s mission
Has a positive and uplifting attitude
Is familiar with the content of the Docent guide
Additional Skills
Has a flexible schedule, can serve on weekends and/or weekdays (4 hours – noon to 4:00 pm, Tuesday through Friday, some Saturdays or Sundays)
Being bilingual is helpful (Spanish, other languages welcome)
Typical Conditions
There is a fair amount of walking and climbing garden stairs
There may be frequent need to change procedures to accommodate simultaneous activities
Equipment Used
Walkies, AV System which is used to play iPad, DVD’s CD’s
Commitment
Because of the training required to do this work, we ask a minimum of one year’s service. We also work closely and supportively with each other to help cover unforeseen scheduling conflicts as much as possible. This group effort serves us all with loving, caring, and compassion.
