Happy New You

This article by John-Roger was first published in the New Day Herald, March 1995

On December 11, 1995, J-R did a question-and-answer session with initiates and ministers in Northern California, right before the Living in Grace retreat. For your enjoyment, here are J-R’s closing remarks from that sharing.

Thank you all for being here. And thanks for honoring me and each one of us, because if we didn’t show up, we couldn’t have this gathering. Maybe I didn’t work with you, but your energy field here made it possible to have work done with somebody else. Sometimes, you forget to thank yourself for that part of what you do. You forget to say, “Thank me for being there. Thank me for having the wit to go there. Yeah, it cost a little bit of money, but thank me that I had the money to do that.” When one person is worked with, some part of you is worked with, too. It just has to happen like this because we’re tied together.

Sometimes people say, “You know, I walk out after a seminar or sharing and know that something happened. I don’t know what, but I sure feel better.” The unconscious started letting go of things because we named them. Once we name things, we can claim them and pull them out. It’s important to know yourself, to know who you are, so you can name your things. And once something is named, you have authority over it. You can’t control it—you have authority over it—and you can take it and have it removed. But if you name it incorrectly and try to remove it, it will go to you.

So if you don’t know what the name is, you say, “In God’s name,” and you let God take the responsibility for what it is and for the removal of it. Then you can just say, “Thank you, Lord.” I don’t think the Lord expects you to say that, but you’re acknowledging a part of you that was smart and humble enough to get involved and do it.

You know, the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness is probably one of the finest church organizations on the planet, because as much as possible it stays out of the way between you and God. It just provides guideposts, arrows, directions, information that keep you going on the road. And have you ever noticed that when people in MSIA are going by you, they don’t knock you over, but they go out around and give you the space?

Whether you are in here or not in here, it’s entirely your business. It’s not expected that everybody’s going to stay in the Church for the rest of their life. You may have to go out and go to China, for example, to work with some people there who are part of your karmic field that will show up in a few years, and you’re to go there. Do you have to say good-bye? Not at all. You don’t have to say anything. It’s between you and God. But if you don’t go, you may not be acknowledging your part in the great spiritual work that’s going on in the material world.

Don’t worry if you feel the earth shake. Don’t worry if you hear of strange negative occurrences on the planet. Don’t worry about that. And if it hits you, it will be too late to worry. But we do want to keep our energy field moving up as much as we can. It will go down, just because we’re human. We’re going to smack into the ground and get broken noses and everything else, and we may lie there and do our routine of crying and feeling bad. Then we get up and fix the nose and get going. And if you have to have surgery later on to make it look the way you want it to look, go do that. Don’t be concerned about what other people say. You tell them, “You just do your thing, because I’m going over here.”

And sometimes you don’t like people one day, but the next day, when their karma moves, you wonder what it was you didn’t like because you can hardly remember it. Don’t go looking back for the answers. Let those die. Jesus said it this way: “Let the dead bury the dead.” Those who want to do that, let them do it. They’re equipped to handle it. The spirit of God is with them, also. They may not be as aware of it as they could be, but they’re aware of it enough to handle what they’ve got going.

We’re not saviors, we’re travelers, and we’re going to die from this plane. Maybe we’re going to die in strange, horrendous, terrible ways, and maybe we’re not. But, you know, the angel of death doesn’t care how you do it, just that you do it. If you want to die of a pox, your skin falling off, your head falling off, a heart attack, cancers, or because you over-stuff and get bloated and blow up, the angel of death simply doesn’t care. All it cares about is that you die and we’re going. If you were to ask the angel of death, “What did I die from?” the angel would say something like, “Oh, I don’t know. There were about five thousand who went that day. Let’s go.” It doesn’t look back because it’s not its job to know why and what you died from. That you die is its job.

But you know what is so neat? You’ve got an angel waiting for you. Is it just for us? No, it’s for everybody on the planet, but they may not have the wit to open their eyes when they die. They may not be trained. They may figure, “Oh, I’m dead, I close my eyes, I don’t open them,” and they stay like that for a long time because what do they know about time? Nothing. There’s no time in that “unknown” place.

It’s strange that things happen the way they do, because there are no references in that place, but when you go there enough, you start to find out that you were always the reference in your universe. And so you must always be responsible to what you respond to. If you’re going to respond to something, be responsible to it, and if you’re not, don’t. There’s no negative, one way or another. If you don’t, that’s fine. If you do, then do it. In one way, it’s an invitation to do nothing, because if you don’t respond, you don’t have anything to be responsible to. But you won’t gain the strength of being a creator, you won’t gain the power of upliftment. The things that you could hold, you will miss. So we get in there, no matter what it is, and we keep at it.

There’s no one good, better, higher, or lower in this Movement. It’s just all of us trying not to step on each other or bump each other too hard or harm people. That’s what we’re working to do, and we’re succeeding. We’re a small group of people—over the years, it’s probably up in the hundreds of thousands—but primarily we’re just a handful of people who manage to pull the negativity of the planet to disperse it. We’re able to go into areas and set it all up, and then all “hell” can break loose. Someone may say, “Did you set that up?”

“Yeah, we did.”

“But all hell broke loose.”

“Yeah, I know. It’ll be over very soon, and now they’re going to get well. The other way was a little at a time; it was painful and cruel; it was suffering.”

You have to remember that if something’s got to go, let it go. Letting it go doesn’t mean you sit there with it to see if it goes. When I let something go, I go out the door to make sure I’m doing my part to let it go. You have to do your part to let something go. Just keep that thought in mind: you have to do your part. Nobody else can dictate it to you. They can suggest a lot of things, and you still have to pick up the one that it is. And if it isn’t, you’ll put it down and pick up the next one that it is. If you’re like me, you sometimes pick up a whole lot of things and find out it was none of them. So you start picking up some more again because there seems to be no way out or back, but with the right attitude, it doesn’t really matter.

You people I won’t see at Living In Grace, Merry Christmas and a Happy New You. And make sure you do that. As a friend of mine from Miami said once, “Merry Krishna,” so that, too. It doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t have to be significantly singled out to our particular vocabulary perspective. It can help us to work with each other to do that, but we can move out of that just as fast as anybody else.  And you can just say, “Happy Holidays,” and you’ve still said the same things. And for the rest of you, I’ll see you at Living in Grace—and at Walking in the Light at Conference.
