“The opportunity to be in peace is in every moment, in every choice. You come to peace first with yourself, and then by sharing peace with others. I join you in claiming our spiritual heritage of peace and loving. ”
-John-Roger, D.S.S., IIWP Founder, Loving Each Day for Peacemakers

Join peacemakers around the world in the Worldwide Internet Peace Prayer that begins on Thursday, July 4, 2013 and ends Monday, August 6, 2013. A core group of 3,504 peacemakers worldwide are already committed to doing a inner process daily for coming to peace within and sharing it with others. We invite you to participate with us!

We will begin this round of the Peace Prayer at IIWP’s Gathering of Peacemakers as part of MSIA’s Annual Conference at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Los Angeles. See below for more information on how to participate in our Gathering.

The Worldwide Peace Prayer takes place through rounds and periods of practical application. During a round, participants receive by email quotes and processes for tuning to peace inwardly and making choices that lead consistently to peace. Our theme for this round is one of IIWP’s four principles of peace: “Peace is a choice, available regardless of any conditions.”

To sign up for the Worldwide Peace Prayer:

Once you have signed up for the Prayer, your name will remain on the list of participants until such time as you choose to Unsubscribe.

Our Inner Peace Process and Prayer

We invite you to take a moment now to attune to the Peace that is Present:

Focus on your breathing.
Let your body relax, and be aware of the sounds around you.
Whatever you hear, focus on your breath as it moves in and out,
Bringing you into the here and now.

This is where loving and peace reside.

Relax into the loving.
Be aware of peace radiating through you and extending out from you,
To gently hold the planet earth and all of God’s creation in your loving care,

We gather together as Peacemakers, encircling the planet, chanting:

I Love You,
God Bless You,
Peace Be Still.

Just now we become aware of any againstness we may be running. We let it go.
We let God. We relax.

We envision a reawakening of peace on earth, like a golden sun rising over the rim of the planet spreading forth its Light and encompassing all in the Light of Peace.

———

A fellow peacemaker recently shared with us: “Just want you to know that I continue loving the beautiful vibration I experience when I practice the peace prayer. It amazes me that this can come through an e-mail that is guiding the practice of people in so many different places at different times. A nice reminder of the eternal and infinite quality of peace. ” (Matthew, USA)

On Sunday, June 9th, IIWP Rep Vania Grimalt and 13 other peacemakers gathered in the home of Karen Zuluaga Jiménez in Bogota to have a Peacemaker...

On Sunday, June 9th, IIWP Rep Vania Grimalt and 13 other peacemakers gathered in the home of Karen Zuluaga Jiménez in Bogota to have a Peacemaker Meeting and to plant IIWP’s first tree for peace in Karen’s garden. Here’s their report:

Thanks God for today! It was a beautiful day, not too much sun, not too little – just enough. A nice gentle breeze accompanied us the whole time, and it was like we all were embraced with a glow of joy and sweetness, open and available to this sharing of peace. We arrived at Karen’s home at 1pm, which is outside of Bogota in Chia. We had lunch together outside at the backyard garden, everyone had brought something to share. We enjoyed a nice talk, and we found out that Karen and her mother Clarita have been working at the garden earlier (where we were going to plant our tree for peace later this afternoon). There were so many funny stories to share.

Then we gathered in the living room for the Peacemaker Meeting. We were 14 peacemakers ready to share our peace! Some of us were MSIA ministers, others were students of MSIA Discourses, and still others were close family open to experience whatever came present in this meeting. We even had a little one present, Valeria. She is 2 years old, and when we started the Peacemaker Meeting, she didn’t like the TV anymore and hurried up to the living room to be part of the meeting. Adriana, her mother, very lovingly and peacefully allowed her to sit in her lap, and Valeria shared her smiles and sounds until she felt sleep It was beautiful.

Karen called us forward into the Light, and we started to share our intention toward peace. We became aware of how many diverse, particular and practical tools that people use to attune with the Peace present. Vania noticed that focusing on qualities of peace can help us experience peace through them. And Karen observed how through our intentions, we were able to choose peace regardless any circumstances. We listened to the Meditation for Peace and did the Peace Prayer Visualization, starting with a seeding.

Being attuned to this high energy, we went outside to the garden and finished the meeting by another kind of seeding – planting a Tree for Peace. Here’s information about the tree we planted: CentroNía Brachycera (Melastomataceae), known as Tuna, Arborea is a species native to the cold forests of Colombia. It is a tree that can reach 7-15 meters tall, and it gives big magenta or violet color flowers!

Planting the tree was so amazing and amusing, some of us used our hands without gardener’s gloves, and some used a gardener tool. We could feel the energy coming out of our hearts and into the ground and almost felt like the tree was happy to be planted by so many humans!! And we were all laughing, joking and talking from our peace inside. When the tree was planted, we grabbed hands in a circle and surrounded the tree. Everyone shared a quality of peace from his or her heart as a gift to the tree to multiply and magnify it as it grows and to spread it into the whole world through its roots, trunk, and leaves with the help of the gentle breeze and the Sound Current. We placed a stone by the tree with a quote “Peace is Present” from IIWP Founder John-Roger.

My sister Nan was sharing office space with Atman Travel (if I am remembering my L.A. mapping correctly, it was located on Westwood & Olympic) in West L.A. back in 1976/77. I had just that day moved from San Diego to work with Nan in her business which she also shared space with Ingrid in her separate business.

I believe I was there all of 1 ½ hours when Michael, Randy and John-Roger came in to pick up airline tickets. I was unaware of any of this taking place except that Nan, Ingrid, Rachael (who worked for Atman at the time), Adam (who worked for Ingrid and was later my roommate, dearest friend and musical partner on many projects) had all but disappeared to where I did not know. I was busy on a phone call in Nan’s office. In the middle of that telephone call, as I was speaking on the phone and taking notes, Nan poked her head in the office and whispered “I want you to meet a friend of mine – this is John-Roger!”

Well, I was doubly busy but seeing Nan’s face all aglow – I paused what I was doing and cocked the headset on my shoulder and put my hand out to shake J-R’s and said “Hey John, how’s it going?” J-R’s eyebrows were pointed up in that laughing manner without breaking out in guffaws right at me. He told Nan a couple of beautiful things about me right then before leaving.

My parents had given me a stern warning upon leaving home: “Don’t go getting involved in that John-Roger business along with your sister Nan OR start hanging around with your brother Danny in those gay clubs up there and dancing ’til dawn!” After meeting J-R that first day in L.A., I immediately began attending home seminars with Mishea which allowed me the opportunity to attend J-R’s Wed./Th. night seminars each week at Prana with Nan & friends – never missed a week. ALONG with dancing ‘til dawn with my brother Danny (as long as we could keep up!), God bless his beautiful, loving soul. He loved J-R too.

John Morton, is the spiritual director of the Movement for Spiritual Inner Awareness (MSIA). Their headquarters are located in Los Angeles within The Neighborhood News boundaries on Adams, West of Arlington, where they purchased and restored the Guasti Villa. They are generous neighbors, allowing residents to come and visit these gorgeous grounds, stroll down to the incredible gardens, walk the labyrinth, and attend their many free lectures.

I sat down with John and became a part of his live feed to thousands of listeners all over the world who tune into his regular talks.

TNN: John, thank you so much for spending time with us today.
Can you tell us how this movement come about?

John:	Such a simple question! (Laughter) Most directly it came about because of John-Roger, our founder. His work started formalizing as an organization legally in 1971. He was doing a lot of informal events, talking to people in their homes, etc., and it became what we call a movement. We finally organized as a church but we consider ourselves nondenominational. We are actually celebrating 50 years of John-Roger doing this work this summer at our annual conference.

TNN: What got him started? Did he just start having dreams and wanting to talk about them?

John:	Yes, and what I would call mystical experiences, things that are very challenging to explain let alone bring to the world in a way that is understandable. He has done a magnificent job in that way and has created a work that is worldwide. We have lots of people involved in our seminary, Peace Theological Seminary and College of Philosophy, which is also headquartered here (on Adams) and we have another building just down the street. The movement is very much alive.

TNN: How does MSIA differ from other spiritual organizations?

John: It embraces teachings that are true for the spiritual consciousness, the soul. We do our way of spiritual awareness, soul awareness. That obviously is something that other organizations or other teachers have previously brought out.

TNN: One thing I’ve noticed is that there is a real emphasis on a discussion of the soul as opposed to just alluding to the soul.

John:	Everyone is invited to have their direct experience and we consider that a responsibility, not just an opportunity. Our teachings are very much about going within and finding your experience because it is available, so don’t believe what we are saying. There is a trust in something that goes beyond understanding. Everyone needs to find it in their own personal way.

TNN: Your group often refers to the “traveler.” Can you explain this?

John: John-Roger identifies it as the “Mystical Traveler Consciousness”. That is the name he chose to refer to a consciousness that has tremendous ability, that is of a divine nature. How do we make personal contact with our god, our divine nature? It has an ability to assist us on all levels, not just in this world but in the worlds to come wherever that may be, and assist us in awakening spiritually.

TNN: How do your members practice your spiritual path?

John: It is much more a process of experience than a do this, eat this, point in this direction and you will find the magical keys opening up, technique. We have what we call spiritual exercise. That’s our core practice. We make sure people understand it is not passive; it’s active and dynamic. It’s something we need to do with full consciousness, full awareness; be alert, be awake, and be ready. We do a lot to encourage people to be open, to be on your way with your own personal levels of experience. Trust yourself. Find your own strength and wisdom. It’s very practical.

TNN: What are the consequences, the results of having this greater connection to the Traveler, or this interior Divine intelligence…other than just becoming a really nice person? (Laughter)

John:	Well, that’s quite an accomplishment! (Laughter) But beyond that, it is practical. It is much more about finding who you are in the truest sense of what that is, so that you are self-identified. You are self-awake. You are self-reliant. There are many things that I would call blessings. Probably the simplest way I would say it is people develop more health, wealth, and happiness, although its not about getting those things. It is a path that moves our consciousness so that we can create those kinds of results.

TNN: The ‘60s was love’s generation……

John: I was like that. I’m part of love’s generation. (Laughter)

TNN: Then you know what I’m talking about! There was the notion that all you needed was love and what the world needed now was love, sweet love. There were love-ins and a spirit burst into our consciousness and became part of a revolution of increased consciousness and a desire for truth. This also brought out greater awareness of the dark elements in our world. Can you talk about some of the ways you may perceive how this spirit of love has grown and changed our world since the ‘60s, if you think it has?

John:	I definitely think it has. When we open up spiritually, we find our strengths but we also find what would challenge our strengths. There is a force of opposition that is going to test us in our resolve to be true to ourselves and live according to our spiritual nature rather than things that would invite us to be harsh, angry, disturbed, shut down, live in fear, or live in doubt. These are like two forces – in a simple way, a positive and negative – that we are all called upon to work out. We are encouraging people to find the most positive, the most uplifting of our spiritual nature. I’m probably not quoting Charles Dickens, but it is something like “They were the best of times and they were the worst of times.” This is what I see. It is intensifying; our world has more intense issues. There is more pollution and yet there is more effort to clean up the world to come back into harmony and balance. Clearly there is a need to restore balance, restore qualities in the earth that allow us to live together. Not just cohabitate or survive, but live together in peace and upliftment. We have that potential. That’s part of what we are encouraging people to find and then to make a contribution. We encourage community service, service of all kinds. That’s part of waking up spiritually. It is an opportunity. It doesn’t always make the news. The news often wants to focus on the most sensational or the most disturbing because often that is interesting. That’s understandable, but there is great, great good going on in my lifetime, in your lifetime, our lifetimes.

TNN: I would like you to think of some of the people that you know that you consider to have a lot of soul. What is it about them … what qualities do they share in common?

John: Well, my view is that everyone has not just a lot of soul but complete soul. There are a lot of great examples of people who are expressing opening in their true nature which embraces our individuality, our culture, all of that; our ancestry. When we really come forward and express a soulful nature, then it is a very readable expression. I find it expresses through caring and loving, through respect and honoring. Also, tremendous freedom is a part of the soul awakening. It comes out as a freedom of expression and freedom of consciousness. It is liberating and also necessary for our well-being, for our happiness. John-Roger basically is the person in my life who has demonstrated that the most. I am very close to his work. There are so many people I could look to as demonstrating that.

TNN: Most people don’t want to change. When we walk on a true spiritual path we are inspired to change, sometimes consciously, and sometimes unconsciously. What are some of the big changes that you personally have experienced… like when you look back and you go, “I’m really different now” …in what ways?

John: Most important is the willingness to change in a direction that is contributing to the positive strengthening in values that bring nurturing, bring contribution to the world around us. That can be in very simple of ways of just helping somebody or helping something. It’s these ways that come forward. This gives real satisfaction that brings fulfillment.

One of the great turning points for me was when I realized I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. When I graduated from college I looked around, I didn’t know of a single person who I thought well, there’s a person who understands themselves and knows what they are going to do with their life and has a plan. I just felt as though nobody was fully aware of themselves. I felt I was at a loss. I started on a search and I realized in that process I was looking for someone who knew this world and what was going on, a real teacher.

That’s how I found John-Roger. It has been a path that requires tremendous letting go, releasing our past identification and being open to brand new ways of expression. For me, this path of spiritual awakening requires our strength of endurance, requires great courage because at times it appears that Old Man River is full of peace and grace, and then around the bend might be the rapids and here we go again, where we have a sense of I don’t know who I am. I don’t know where I am. We are looking all over again for those values that give us clear direction, a sense of “I’m on the right path.”

One of the keys to that process is the willingness to go within, the willingness to be true. John-Roger did a campaign for five years which was focused on integrity. We gave integrity awards to a variety of people – Mother Theresa, Lech Walesa, and Stevie Wonder. There was just a range of people who were identified as expressing their integrity. He defined integrity as having the courage to go with the truth as you know it; a heartfelt response with care and consideration for others.

To me, that’s a recipe for a great life; each of us to have that willingness. He felt he needed to say the part “with care and consideration” because sometimes people interpret the truth that hey, my truth is that I’m going to knock you over so I can do what I want. If it hurts people, there is something out of alignment.

TNN::	Can you always avoid hurting people when you are standing in your truth?

John:	I have found that hurt is something that we can eliminate, even at an emotional level, or you could say conceptually. Sometimes a thought hurts and it is very disturbing to think a particular way, or to lose something or consider we are losing something. I even found that minimizing it and doing things that restore, nurtures, forgives so that we have a consciousness that is willing to make amends, to let go of a conflict. These are very important qualities.

TNN: You know, there is the idea that humans are relatively new on the planet, right? Last 30 seconds if you look at the whole of the planet as an hour. There is the idea that we are actually still evolving, that we are relatively new and in beginning stages, and that our evolution is not over. Do you want to talk a little bit about your thoughts of the evolution of humans? (Laughter)

John:	I would love to. (Laughter) One of the aspects of spirituality I find, and I’m sure John-Roger has revealed that in his experience, there is a mysterious quality to our life that in some ways remains mysterious. It’s always a challenge to comprehend. One of the mysteries to me is that it appears that our life has a destiny. You could say it is predestined; it’s already worked out. It also has this quality of evolution, that we are growing. It seems that these two things are integrated so sometimes it is as though it won’t matter what I do because my destiny will make sure I will do what I need to do. Then it is as though every little choice, every single choice, every thought also impacts. Our way of looking at it is there is growth; there is spiritual growth, there is personal growth.

In my view, the opportunities for growth are better than ever in whatever you would call this, this epoch, this 30 seconds of our existence. I do consider that we are in a place where we need to change, we need to evolve where we get along in very simple terms. Now it is vitally important that we find ways to mutually harmonize and mutually get along in ways that contribute instead of take away. I think we are being compelled and if we don’t there will be natural conclusions. The laws of nature are supreme in terms of our options. We can’t break these laws. We have to cooperate with them.

TNN::	We do. I have been having this vision lately about humans being a big web but it is almost as if there is something that wants us to stay disconnected from each other. Our nature is to be connected, but there are forces that want to keep us disconnected. What would happen if that ended somehow and suddenly we were just embracing the connection? What would that be like? Is that our true state?

John:	That is how I experienced being spiritually awake, that we are all connected. It’s a beautiful connection. It is not I’m connected to you and I want to run and get away. It’s a very beautiful nature when we take away the veil. I would agree that there are forces that contradict, that oppose, that seemingly find fault and find why I don’t want to be with you or I don’t want to try to get along. Everyone has … I just call it an opportunity to make choices to move it along. I find it is more critical in a way, it is more important than ever to make choices in cooperation, to make choices that I give to you. I have a willingness to contribute to you, that I’m not keeping score all the time. I did three and you need to do three, but I’m going to see if I can work it out so that you give me four. In order to do that, I had to be deceptive.
That kind of consciousness is why we’re in so much disturbance. But there is also great beauty. I encourage people to find the positive focus and contribute to it. Be a leader even if you would say 9 out of 10 people aren’t doing this. That means often people who want to lie to me or cheat they get away with it because I give them credit. I give them the benefit. I encourage people to say well if they take something from you consider it will be replaced. We have a source, a divine source that is going to watch out for us and protect us and supply what we need. At times that often takes great trust and faith in an invisible Creator. That’s not a new consciousness. That’s something that has been taught in various religions. It’s something I call faith and trust in God.

TNN::	I think the more that you commit to that vision and act out of that vision, it replicates itself in greater measure.

John:	Right. John-Roger introduced the concept called “portable paradise.”

TNN::	Portable paradise! (Laughter)

John:	I love it. Your own heaven on earth created so that in your 10%, your immediate surroundings, it is beautiful. You’re welcomed. There is kindness. There is compassion. There is a willingness to give, a willingness to receive. We have a beautiful friendship, a beautiful neighborhood. In this neighborhood, in West Adams, next to South Central we have a beautiful place for people to come to. There is an Eden steps away.

TNN::	What is the one question that is commonly asked of you when you travel and lecture? What is the question that keeps coming up?

John:	Why did you do that? (Laughter) You know, the questions that are asked are some version of who are we, or who am I? What is this world? What am I doing here? I find that everyone has a need to answer that question. Even if we dismiss it and we avoid it because it is too seemingly overwhelming and there is no answer, often I think it part of the process in people’s attempt to survive. They pay attention to the hourly things, the bills have to be paid, or if there is some issue with another person or a situation. I find these things often can take our attention and dominate it. We are not really settled and we are not at peace inside. We are not fulfilled. We don’t have a sense of direction and purpose.

It is very important – and this may be another way of answering your question – we discover our purpose more directly. The beauty of that, I find, is that it takes in everyone’s individuality so that your purpose can be very different from mine; yet we can find a common purpose; that we love one another. That is not a new concept. Love yourself because if a person isn’t loving themselves then there is something shut down. The loving can’t fully get over to somebody else, or to anything for that matter. We encourage people to open the loving treasury and the source of loving. Then, open to having it come from others.

TNN::	Receiving it.

John:	Yes, so that the loving in me can connect to the loving in you even if you are not acting very well, which is where it really gets challenging. When others aren’t behaving in a loving, kind, understanding way.

TNN::	Well, I would imagine tolerance is part of love.

John:	(Laughter) You don’t have to imagine that from my experience. It’s a kind of tolerance we call acceptance. We consider acceptance a spiritual law. We need to accept in order to fully resonate with our being. If we are rejecting and we are not in an understanding of what something is or who someone is, there is work there. We often invite people to do that work, to make the adjustments so that there is more acceptance, more cooperation, more understanding.

TNN::	I was reading the other day something that really resonated that talked about the more you get into this consciousness the more willing you are to actually look and see who somebody really is as opposed to who they think they are or what they are acting out. You gain an understanding of their behavior because you can see behind the behavior.

John:	As it has been talked about, if you walk in someone’s moccasins, their steps, and actually experience their life then we would have much greater appreciation and understanding. Perhaps the things we would criticize or judge, we would take that back and say, “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize how challenging your life is and now that I see your life in the way it is for you, I have compassion. I have appreciation. I have thankfulness and a willingness to contribute and help.”

TNN::	And cut you some slack. (Laughter)

John:	You know, if we just talked and allowed people in a way to have a moment where they are not in their best consciousness and consider whether I have ever had a reactive moment. Of course I have. In my reactive moment, what did I need? Did I need somebody who was upset with me and calling me names, or did I need somebody who said, “Hey, that’s okay. It looks like you’re having a difficult moment. Is there something I could do to help? Maybe some other time we’ll have that talk.”

TNN::	One last question. What was the most surprising thing to you on your path? What was the thing that you discovered that was like, “Whoa! Didn’t expect that!”

John:	That everyone has the soul nature, the spirit nature, in them so that everybody is a diamond. Maybe in the rough or very rough, but there is a diamond there with clarity and beauty, something tremendously precious in every single being. John-Roger termed it as God is in all the creation and out of God comes all things and what that is, is full of love. When we really see the essence of what it really is, it’s an energy field or a formation as you take it apart, or allow it to reveal itself, you see it is all love.	When I behold it, it is in a way startling … awesome. It has this awesome quality that goes on and on. I feel like I’m going ah … ah…. ah… ah. It’s amazing to look at.

TNN::	True dat. Well, thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview.

John:	My pleasure. I’m glad we could take a moment to share with our neighbor and what’s going on in our neighborhood and in whatever your neighborhood is.

TNN::	Yes, and if you want to find out more about our neighborhood, you can go to theneighborhoodnewsonline.net. Our new website is going to be up any minute. It’s fabulous and you can find out all about this important area in Los Angeles right in the middle of Mid City-West Adams. A lot of history. We have stories about this mansion if you go to architecture, so check us out. Thank you.

John:	Thank you!

This past Memorial Day weekend, I was blessed to be able to participate once again in Insight Seminars’ Best of Super II, the 10th annual. It was held in Ojai, California at a beautiful 5 Star Resort with all the amenities one might expect at a fine resort.

This is a fundraising event, so there is always a bit of a financial stretch. So what keeps bringing me back? I don’t recall the exact year I started coming, but believe this year was my 7th or 8th time participating.

First I love supporting John Roger’s ministry on this planet. And Insight is all about opening the heart and transforming the planet through loving. If that isn’t reason enough, there is the added bonus to be able to support the work while being nourished on all levels. Service and self-nourishment all in one activity – I guess you might call that true spiritual ecology. At the very least, it is a very luxurious way to help transform the planet. The team takes great care of us with a beautiful room – with pillows and blankets for those times you want to cuddle up on the floor and listen – wonderful snacks, bountiful dinners, and other treats.

But Insight is all about opening the heart and continuing that expansion into greater loving with every experience. So what opens my heart at this event other than serving through sharing my financial abundance and being pampered on all levels? It begins with about 20 hours of sharing with John Morton, Michael Hayes and Russell Bishop (with occasional connections this year with J-R via Skype). Once again this year I was in awe at how our facilitators – John, Michael and Russell – each brought their own unique awareness and guidance forward to lovingly support each person who shared. I was deeply touched by their sharing with me. But what continues to amaze me even after all these years is how much I gain when others share. At this event more so than any other, I find I am busily writing in my journal about new awarenesses, new information brought forward (which often happens), and actions I can take to check to support myself in greater ways. What I receive is truly priceless and life changing. Every single time I come.

And to top it all off is graduation on Sunday night. If you have taken Insight or been to a graduation, remember the candle ceremony? So simple and yet such a profound reminder of what a difference just one of us can make by being willing to share our loving.

What an amazing day it was — a jam-packed day of the Traveler at Peace Awareness Labyrinth and Gardens! NOW Productions staff and volunteers were buzzing around setting up for the day. Sound checks were in place for the seminar host and those that would be contributing their talent during the seminar. The registration team was ready to welcome folks and the ushers took their places greeting and helping them find their seats. The refreshments team was preparing what would be an amazing surprise dessert after the seminar and then at 11:45am, all was ready and the first event of the day began.

Dianne Lawrence, editor and owner of The Neighborhood News, a local West Adams newspaper that focuses on the “doings” in the West Adams Historic District, where PAL&G is located, asked John Morton some poignant and straightforward questions. His answers were heartfelt, thoughtful, humorous, and enlightening.

You can WATCH THE INTERVIEW below:

Watch live streaming video from msia at livestream.com

John Morton and Leigh Taylor-Young Morton, and hosts Laren Bright and Penelope Bright. shared a table at lunch and then it was time to begin the seminar. Laren was his usual witty self, especially when he introduced his wife, Penelope, who would spend the next five minutes reminiscing about the early days of PAL&G, then called the Purple Rose Ashram of the New Age (Prana for short!). Among many fond and humorous memories, she shared that John-Roger would come to Prana on an almost daily basis to set rules of conduct for the then wild bunch who became the first inhabitants of Prana, most of whom made the pilgrimage from infamous Berkeley. And we all got a chuckle when she painted an all-smiles word picture of the mile-long lineup to perform at these early J-R seminars.

Ariel Downs sang her sweet version of Alleluia a cappella. And then we saw three clips of John-Roger talking to us about how we gravitate toward our earthly tribes and how he encourages us to gravitate toward God’s tribe. He also spoke to us about how unrest in the world needs our help through prayer, our intercessory work.

John began with a talk that picked up where the J-R clips left off. It was a beautiful journey into our hearts. He talked about submitting his life to God and how we can move more fully into our awakening to the Mystical Traveler and become that consciousness inside ourselves. It’s the consciousness of God, it’s Divinity extending into all creation. It has divine authority and power through the Christ. He thanked everyone for showing up, for following the call, the living truth. And everyone is free to follow that call even if it means they would leave and go do something else.

Michael Hayes was with us once again and shared some very powerful information, especially reiterating what John brought forward this time as many times, to focus on gratitude, being thankful for what we have and generous with our spirit.

John ended with a blessing that spoke of MSIA as being the Movement of the Soul, transcending all that is before us. He encouraged us to rise up and step from what binds us to partake of God’s Grace. How? Let God!

Lastly about that surprise dessert: homemade 100% organic banana creme, pressed right here in Prana’s kitchen! No sugar, no dairy, only bananas. Of course we had to add all the usual toppings, not so 100% but oh so yummy!

On December 14th on lunch break during the Living in Grace Retreat, someone asked, “Where do you live now?” When I replied Newtown, CT, I saw shock in my friend’s eyes. She had seen the news on the television in the coffee bar that morning. Twenty young children and six teachers and administrators had been murdered at the Sandy Hook Elementary school where my mom had taught for fourteen years.

It was a blessing to have the opportunity to call in the Light for Sandy Hook an hour later from Living in Grace with my MSIA family. At our Living in Grace store, a beautiful angel whose wings covered and protected a little boy and girl stood tall over the great hall. A friend was moved to purchase this very special Angel and had her blessed by the Traveler. One of my mom’s friends works at Sandy Hook elementary school and received the angel blessing with gratitude. Our blessing of Light was already in motion.

When I got home, I witnessed an outpouring of love flowing from people from around the world, neighbors, church communities, families and friends. Flowers, stuffed animals and letters of loving and prayer were piled at temporary memorial sites at major intersections around town. Green signs in store windows and bumper stickers on cars declared, “We are Sandy Hook. We choose Love.” I even saw this sign on several giant billboards over I-95, 30 miles away. What a sign of loving oneness!

I was present several times with ministers in Washington, DC and New York City as we planted Light Columns with Traveler John Morton. Each time, I experienced of the splendor of Light that we can bring through this silent ministry. So I was aware of the blessing that can be brought through a Light column ministry and prayed to bring a blessing of a Light to Sandy Hook.

On May 9th, the day before the Spiritual Exercises retreat, our group gathered together at the Newtown United Methodist Church in Sandy Hook. My mom and I met MSIA friends from Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and California, as well as a new friend from Australia. MSIA staff members, Roger Wakefield and Julie Lurie, set up their video link. After enthusiastic greetings all around, Cleora Daily and Angel Harper demonstrated the value of preparing the space with quiet spiritual exercises until John Morton and Leigh Taylor-Young Morton arrived.

As rain poured down outside, I stretched into leading us through our very unscripted heartfelt blessing of Light. Connecticut minister Louisa Holmes called in the Light beautifully. My mom and I then sang “Dona Nobis Pacem”, (Latin for “Grant us peace” ) a round sung in my family as grace before meals. Connecticut minister, Leigh Merrihew read about Light columns from Fulfilling your Spiritual Promise…

“As a spiritual being, you have inside the ability to call forth and bring forth the Light of God into any environmental situation and to transmute the negativity into a positive gain. You will probably never know directly the benefits that such work has, the ways it touches people, or the positive changes it brings about. It is a silent work, a silent ministry, and a powerful one.” – John-Roger

In his blessing of Light for Sandy Hook, Traveler John Morton asked us to understand that we are walking Light, breathing Light, …the spark of life that allows us to be in this level. John reminded us of the importance of going within to be silent, to listen and ended by claiming the blessings fully going into every need and satisfying what will serve the good purpose that is in us as God’s truth and God’s love.

Afterwards we each had an opportunity to share our blessings of Light for Sandy Hook. Thanks to each of us for showing up and claiming that we are the blessings. And thanks to Julie Lurie and Roger Wakefield, you can watch John Morton’s blessing and the entire event here:

The Newtown Bee, our local paper announced the unanimous decision on Friday May 10th by the town’s task force, “to build a new school on the site of the current Sandy Hook School. This would allow the community to have a ‘transformative feeling’ and offer emotional closure. This group took an impossible decision and made a ray of hope for the future”, a reporter from the Newtown Bee proclaimed.

This morning, as I drove to the United Methodist Church in Sandy Hook to thank them for the use of their beautiful church, I was aware of a beautiful field of Light. I am so grateful for the Love and support of my Travelers, John Morton and John-Roger. May we continue to learn from their example to be the Light and to share the Light as Spirit directs for the highest good of all concerned. Baruch Bashan. The blessing already are!

Circa 1982-3: A friend wanted to go to ‘something’ at a beachfront mansion and did not want to go alone so I went with her. It turns out there was a speaker, J-R, “Whoever that is?” I thought, but I stayed and listened. At the end of his speaking it was announced not to touch J-R, give him space. He got up, walked directly to me and asked me if I would like a hug! Now you all know that caused a huge stir in the energy around us. I recall saying, “Of course, but they said not to touch you.” He just smiled and in the hug he whispered, “Let’s not worry about them, it’s all perfect,” and a few other short sweet sentences making the hug, in my memory, a very long one.

That was the first of many hugs and encounters I experienced from and with J-R before I ever even started Discourses or knew about MSIA. Until much later, say 1984-5, I still didn’t know who he was but I knew he felt like someone from my spiritual hometown and I knew I had ‘found my way home’ as my ministerial blessing so aptly expresses.

Thank you J-R

From my loving heart,

Joy Orevik
