John-Roger:\u00a0The Sound Current is the true self. When you are in the Sound Current, you may feel a vibration, a rhythm, a hum, a tone. If you are with the Beloved, you don’t need anything else because you’re riding right in the center of the Sound Current, and like the center of the storm, it is quiet and calm. What we do in spiritual exercises is to work towards the center, towards the Sound, the true self, the Beloved.<\/p>\n
Since the beginning of time, mystics have cherished the Sound Current as the silent pulse of God\u2019s presence\u2014a resonance echoing from the Heart of creation. In the East, saints of India and the Himalayas named it\u00a0Anahata Naad, the \u201cunstruck sound\u201d that sings in the heart and in the silence between breaths. Sufis speak of this divine Sound Current as\u00a0Saut-e Sarmad. Hearing\u00a0Saut-e Sarmad\u00a0and meditating on it frees the Soul from all bounds, worries, and fears to become one with the all-pervading music that keeps the universe in motion.<\/p>\n
Hazrat Inayat Khan, Sufi master and musician, invited seekers to \u201cbecome musical in one\u2019s thoughts, words and actions,\u201d teaching that \u201clife is a symphony, and our every action is the playing of our part in the music.\u201d For Inayat Khan, music and sound were not only art but portals to the Infinite from which every form and feeling arises.<\/p>\n
In the West, the Sound Current flows as \u201cthe Word through whom all things were made.\u201d Christian mystics, together with philosophers like Pythagoras, heard the \u201cmusic of the spheres\u201d ringing harmony through all creation. “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.\u201d\u00a0 This is the sound that resides in all people: the sound of God.<\/p>\n
In our day, teachers like John-Roger introduce the Sound Current as a living reality\u2014a vibration of Spirit which, when attuned to in awareness and devotion, brings the Soul home to the Heart of God.
