Can a Marriage Be Threatened in the Family of God?
John-Roger starts with fireflies. "If one of those little firefly bugs comes into this room, you'd see their little tail go bídeep, bídeep, bídeep. The nice thing about it is, he isn’t comparing his light with any other light. He just keeps right on beeping away — bídeep, bídeep, bídeep. It becomes a wonderment to you and you fall in love with it and say, 'Look at that light!' And that really should be our only comparison: look at that light! From the very smallest to the very brightest that we know, they are equally important –equally!"
Now this day, we're living in a world where people are exposed to all kinds of judgments because their lives are chronicled every which way. This J-R seminar was given more than 35 years ago and yet it is more relevant today than it was then. J-R encourages us to do our best to remove judgment and comparisons from our lives, and simply be. "The prize we have inside of us," he says, "is that pearl of great price that we call the Soul." And that brings J-R to the subject of marriage. He says, "All marriages these days seem to be a contract to have exclusive sex with one person until they’re tired of it. But that has hardly anything at all to do with marriage." He continues, "Marriage is that unity of support, of conscientiously loving the person regardless. Why? That is the commitment."
Did you think the firefly story had nothing to do with the theme? "Look at that Light!"
