This is a practical seminar offering information about getting through life with our strength and self esteem intact. John-Roger begins by giving us a miraculous glimpse of our relationship to God. “If we look at creation, and say ‘That’s God,’ we’ve misunderstood the truth that God is behind and outside of creation, but participates with us through it. We are God’s creation in terms of physical bodies, emotions, mind, in terms of the unconscious, in terms of the Soul — but God is the essence that activates Soul. That’s God.” He continues, “Now the God that I’m talking about is not one you’ll find in a Bible. I’m talking about That that is the very foundation, the fundamental primordial energy. That’s the One that I’m always referring to.”
Then J-R gets to the essence of his seminar: what is commanding my attention? Using the example of choosing to sunbathe, J-R reminds us that we may hear other people’s points of view on sunbathing, such as, ‘You’ll get burned laying around like that.’ ‘You can’t get a suntan over there!’ ‘That’s the wrong kind of oil.’ “And that type of information,” J-R says, “is very hard for us to live with because it tends to command our attention and leave us reactive and nowhere in the free will inside of us. And we’re also likely to judge the messenger instead of hearing the message.”
What’s the best approach to take? J-R says, “We don’t have to judge the messenger. We evaluate the message. Whenever you listen to someone telling you something –anything — you do not evaluate the messenger. That’s not what we’re dealing with. We observe the messenger and evaluate the message. And that sets us free — not in terms of having to do anything with it — but free. We can just pass it by.”
