The MSIA Archival Process
[with Video]

We are the bible for the people, one thousand, two thousand years from now. That’s why we’re taping everything and getting things down so that people won’t corrupt a clear teaching. -John-Roger, DSS

At the MSIA Conference Ministers Meeting on July 1, Paul Kaye gave an overview of the Presidency’s highest priorities as stewards of the Church. One of these important areas of focus is to preserve the recordings of John-Roger’s seminars and sharing sessions that go all the way back to 1968 when they were recorded on reel-to-reel audiotape. You youngsters out there may have to Google “reel to reel tape” to understand what this was.

Part of the presentation included a compelling video with key NOW Production staff describing the archival process and what is involved to stay on top of maintaining the generational cycle of media preservation.

Watch the Video

Given the constant evolving and changing landscape of back-up systems, and our continual need to upgrade our systems to keep pace with the times, it is an everlasting project — likened in the video to painting a bridge where, after painting it from one end to the other, the painters start all over again at the beginning to paint it once more.

The good news is that all of John-Roger’s recordings have been digitized (copied to a digital format media of one kind or another) and as archival technology evolves it becomes easier to transfer the recording copies to newer, longer lasting media.
