The Magic of Windermere [with Photos]

Windermere has magic. The magic of simplicity. Simple sun, simple air. Simple gatherings of friends around simple food. Simple walks through seemingly endless stretches of hills, clearings, rocks, and trees that overlook the ocean. And the experience is simply exquisite.

Sure, there are complications, too. How do I find the time? Which house do I stay in? Which friends will show up to share the magic with me? And how do we get the little, motorized cart out of the rocks where it got stuck?

Fortunately, as the resident, goats, sheep, donkey, llama, and steer all seem to know, things have a way of working out at Windermere just as they should. All it takes is showing up, putting your feet on the ground, and blessing the land as it blesses you back.

I found this as true as ever last weekend. Clark Franke on the grill, Dave Wright and MaryJo leading walks across the land, MaryJo playing hostess with the mostest, Gabe Morgan and I jamming before dinner. Now this is what life is about!

I feel J-R and all of the former Chumash inhabitants of the land smiling every time I spend time at Windermere. No matter what happens I’m always glad I came. This time was definitely no exception.
