{"id":110517,"date":"2021-05-20T06:25:15","date_gmt":"2021-05-20T13:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.msia.org\/newdayherald\/?p=110517"},"modified":"2021-05-20T14:53:16","modified_gmt":"2021-05-20T21:53:16","slug":"learning-to-be-positively-focused","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.msia.org\/newdayherald\/archives\/110517-learning-to-be-positively-focused","title":{"rendered":"Learning to Be Positively Focused"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Some of us have a lifetime pattern with variations of physical challenges or pain.\u00a0 That is not necessarily fun, but you can still allow yourself to go into experiences where you are conscious of fun and joy.&#8221;<\/em> &#8211; John Morton <!--\/raw--><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>This article comes from a sharing John had with students in the Peace Theological Seminary and College of Philosophy Doctor of Spiritual Science (DSS) class in February 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some of us have a lifetime pattern with variations of physical challenges or pain.\u00a0 That is not necessarily fun, but you can still allow yourself to go into experiences where you are conscious of fun and joy. My experience is that when we really do that well, we don\u2019t have awareness of the pain.\u00a0 Then, when someone asks, \u201cHow is your pain?\u201d you go, \u201cWhen you ask me that question, I focus on the pain and it\u2019s there.\u00a0 But until you asked me, I wasn\u2019t conscious of the pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One thing you can do is learn how to be positively focused.\u00a0 This is something that John-Roger discussed powerfully.\u00a0 It is much more effective than what we call positive thinking.\u00a0 Stay with and continue the positive focus, versus run affirmations or something like that.\u00a0 I\u2019m not saying those don\u2019t work, but when we say something, it needs to be \u201cimaged in\u201d if we really want to get the full power of it.\u00a0 We actually see what it would look like.\u00a0 And it\u2019s not just seeing.\u00a0 We could also start sensing what it would feel like.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine what it would be like floating on your back so your feet and face are above the water and your hands are spread out to the sides.\u00a0 You\u2019re not moving but you are floating.\u00a0 Often, when I\u2019ve been in a body of water, I stretch out and take air into my lungs, then let some of the air out.\u00a0 I am still floating.\u00a0 Have you done that?\u00a0 Did you notice you could relax as you did that?\u00a0 The buoyancy of that is comforting and pleasant.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m bringing in \u201cimagining\u201d that includes all the senses.\u00a0 Did you notice that perhaps you weren\u2019t aware of any pain while we were doing that?\u00a0 Now you know how to do that!\u00a0 You can do your version of what you want to \u201cimage in\u201d that would be a pleasant and powerful focus.\u00a0 But you might ask, \u201cThat\u2019s great, but what do I do when I\u2019m driving a car or doing work that I\u2019m stressed out about?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We can learn how to do things that stress us, cause worry, anxiety or fear and still move towards \u201cimaging in\u201d what is pleasant and comfortable.\u00a0 I still keep my hands on the wheel when driving a car.\u00a0 I look where I\u2019m going, seeing the road, traffic signs, other cars, and I drive on.\u00a0 In the U.S.A., we drive on the right side of the road and hopefully others are going to drive on the right side of their line so we don\u2019t collide.\u00a0 We can learn how to do these things so we are at ease, at least to some degree, greater than before.<\/p>\n<p>You can say, \u201cI\u2019m learning how to do things so there is less pain.\u201d\u00a0 It can become a practice.\u00a0 It can become a way you do things.\u00a0 There is more ease.\u00a0 You can bring ease to the body and do that so you could be relaxed even if you are doing brain surgery.\u00a0 I bring that up because sometimes people use that example, like that takes the most tremendous focus.\u00a0 It takes acuity, a very precise fine motor skill.\u00a0 Everything is working together in precision.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe there are ways to bring things around you that would bring ease to your life, contribute to your well-being and happiness as well as whatever is pleasant and serene.\u00a0 I encourage you to find your words that fit in so that whatever you do in your life, it isn\u2019t in a state of stress or tension.\u00a0 Stress and tension contribute to something like pain.\u00a0 They are generators of agitation.\u00a0 Once that gets into the physical, it can be painful.<\/p>\n<p>I know people are going to say, \u201cWhat about toxicity, infection or injury?\u201d\u00a0 If that exists, there is a need to heal or clear the conditions that are affecting you so there is less pain, suffering or dysfunction on the physical level. That is part of it.\u00a0 That process can be done more effectively if we have positive focus as our attitude.\u00a0 Find some kind of positive attitude like, \u201cI\u2019m at ease with my life regardless of what it brings to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We can develop skills and abilities more effectively when we are generally at ease.\u00a0 Great performers have a great ability to be at ease while they are performing.\u00a0 The ones who don\u2019t perform so well tend to be on the side where they\u2019re anxious, worried and perhaps \u201cseeing\u201d what could go wrong.\u00a0 Why would it be a surprise if the negative focus brings in something that represents what went wrong or didn\u2019t work?<\/p>\n<p>Change yourself so you develop a habit that you can do unconsciously.\u00a0 That\u2019s what habits become.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have to think consciously to drive a car.\u00a0 At the unconscious level, I can do it.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good idea to have awareness so that you can put your foot on the brake if cars in front of you have slowed down.\u00a0 You can do it so you don\u2019t have to think about that either.\u00a0 You do it as an automatic response because your focus is on \u201cstaying safe\u201d while you drive.\u00a0 You\u2019ve developed that ability.<\/p>\n<p>As you become familiar with creating what you want, such that you can do what you want, you can repeat that and do it again.\u00a0 That\u2019s what we call confidence.\u00a0 \u201cI can do this!\u201d\u00a0 Worrying about it is a waste of time because you\u2019ve done it.\u00a0 You\u2019ve done it repeatedly.\u00a0 You can call forward the ability, the skill and the doing to get what you are wanting to accomplish done. Then you can do that with more fun.\u00a0 Maybe you sing and dance freely.\u00a0 You\u2019re not worried what others think about you.\u00a0 You dance like no one is watching.\u00a0 You are watching, and it\u2019s your consciousness.<\/p>\n<p>We say God is always watching because that is in its nature.\u00a0 It watches, observing and seeing all.\u00a0 Does God make a fuss about it?\u00a0 God doesn\u2019t have an objection towards what you are.\u00a0 Consider you could have the same attitude.\u00a0 Don\u2019t judge or take issue with what you are, period.\u00a0 That could include chronic pain, or however you would describe that for yourself.\u00a0 That is awareness.<\/p>\n<p>There is another opportunity present.\u00a0 What do you want to do about that?\u00a0 I\u2019m making it very general.\u00a0 Where do you want to focus?\u00a0 What image comes in that you want to create?\u00a0 Maybe go back to floating in the water.\u00a0 You\u2019re breathing, buoyant and it\u2019s very enjoyable.\u00a0 That is something you can bring forward through the creative imagination.<\/p>\n<p>That is called the astral consciousness.\u00a0 That\u2019s a higher consciousness than the physical.\u00a0 If you can \u201cimage it in\u201d, it can translate into the mind, emotions and the body.\u00a0 The body picks it up as we\u2019re buoyant and it\u2019s pleasant.\u00a0 Could you do that while you\u2019re driving the car?\u00a0 Yes, if you can keep that part of you that has the intention of \u201cdrive safe\u201d but is also aware of being buoyant in the water, having a very enjoyable time while driving.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t look at this like I\u2019m an expert or a master of all I\u2019m telling you, but I have the awareness of it as an opportunity.\u00a0 What could you do differently that would help you with the pain?\u00a0 If you focus positively, you\u2019re not focused into the pain or the cause of the pain itself.\u00a0 Pain is in the negative.\u00a0 It can be a situation that could use correcting, like you change the condition so the pain is no longer necessary as a message.<\/p>\n<p>I look at pain as primarily a message that something is out of balance.\u00a0 It\u2019s in \u201cdis-ease\u201d or injury.\u00a0 There is a condition that is causing a disturbance, a disturbance in the force.\u00a0 That could be something like toxicity. Something is in our system that is rendering us dysfunctional.\u00a0 If we address that condition, we could come back into greater functionality and harmony with what we are in that state that is pleasant.\u00a0 If you can be happy, smiling and dancing, even though pain visits you in some form, you could adjust your attitude so you are more positively focused. Then you are less conscious of the pain because you are focusing on something pleasant.\u00a0 You are focused on the positive.<\/p>\n<p>Baruch Bashan<br \/>\n<u><\/u><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><u><br \/>\n<\/u><strong>Blessing of the Grace of God<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Right now, in your own way and our way together we ask God for a blessing.<\/p>\n<p>We ask this blessing to touch to each one of us to make this a place of God\u2019s blessing, this city, this world and that it goes out as a blessing of all.<\/p>\n<p>We are open to a blessing of all.<\/p>\n<p>If there is a particular way you would like to be blessed, that you offer that up first in God\u2019s will.<\/p>\n<p>We honor that will.<\/p>\n<p>In our wisdom we know God\u2019s will is perfect, even when we forget, when we don\u2019t understand.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a deeper understanding that knows God\u2019s business has mysteries and we give our patience and our openness to those mysteries.<\/p>\n<p>We allow the blessing of time so that we can be healed of whatever needs healing.<\/p>\n<p>We ask God to extend the blessing to all those who want or need healing.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s extend this blessing as a possibility so that we may now see fulfillment of whatever is needed for anyone and any situation for the highest good of all concerned so that whatever is needed is taking place.<\/p>\n<p>We are allowing fulfillment of every need.<\/p>\n<p>We are cooperating with God\u2019s will being done.<\/p>\n<p>And now take a moment to be filled in the Grace of God that is with you and all of us together.<\/p>\n<p>Grace lets us know we can be thankful for what good is right here and now.<\/p>\n<p>We give up an offering of our thanks, knowing that our true nature is caring and loving.<\/p>\n<p>And so it is.<\/p>\n<p>Baruch Bashan<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h5>WATCH A BLESSING WITH JOHN MORTON<\/h5>\n\t\t<!-- Start of Brightcove Player -->\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div style=\"display: block;
