I ended up talking with another attendee about meditation and chanting, and he mentioned a young woman in the Inpatient Unit that used to be an alternative therapist. He told me she has cancer and thought she might like a meditation of some sort.

He took me to her room where I offered her a meditation and chanting. I asked if she was okay with the concept of God and the Holy Spirit. She nodded. I called in God’s Light and the Holy Spirit. I spoke her name into the Light and asked for a clearing and for a blessing of grace. Then I began chanting the Ani Hu, tuning in to what came present before going into the silence. Upon opening my eyes it looked as if she had drifted off. I quietly said, “I am going to leave now.” She quietly thanked me before I gently left the room to go to the meeting.

About a week later, I was back at the hospice for another purpose, and I went to see her again intending to offer another meditation. She had visitors throughout the day and medical personnel that were assisting her, so the timing wasn’t ideal for me to be with her in that way.

As I was walking to my car to drive home, I heard inwardly, “You don’t need to be with her physically. Pray for her. Call in the Light, and chant for her from home. Place her in the Light. Include her name on the prayer list.” I listened to the voice of my heart and did all of these things.

Some days later I found out that she had passed away, and I thanked God for the opportunity and blessing to be of service. I felt so grateful. This experience opened my eyes and heart even more to the awe of Spirit’s powerful presence and timing. I see how when I get out of the way, I can be of more use to Spirit as I embrace opportunities to serve in simple ways as well as bigger ones. I hear J-R say, ‘You don’t have to save the world, just do what is in front of you.’

Later I reflected on these words from J-R.

“The inner voice is non-inflictive…. One way it opens in a hurry is to be of selfless service to the people around you. That opens the heart. The Spirit heart opens, and the communication of the Lord starts to come with you.”
– John-Roger, Fulfilling Your Spiritual Promise.
