We realize there’s something personal about what’s going on here — our level of concern, our level of consideration. We call that the “Ten Percent.” Those are the things and experiences assigned to you for your learning and your growth. So your ten percent is personalized and individualized for that purpose.

Your ten percent is also sanctified by God. It’s sacred and holy. So there really is an importance in taking care of your ten percent level — your personal level, your individuality. Regard it as your first assignment as work in this world.

Take care of your ten percent level to demonstrate that you are prepared and ready for the other ninety percent. If you’re not ready, you may let your level fall down. That will demonstrate how you’re not prepared, how you’re still learning and growing in the ten percent level.

Get your priorities straight, the way that God assigned them to you. Take care of what your level of concern is. It begins right here and now in your body. It’s as though a ray of life force came in and incorporated you in that body. That’s a sign to you to first take care of what comes on that level. In MSIA, our first ground rule is “Take care of yourself so you can help take care of others.” That’s about taking care of yourself first as a divine being in this world.

A big key is to love your life — your ten percent. I don’t know of any way to get around that one as it is. So love it. Whatever the conditions are, love your life as is it is.

Live as if you are blessed, and that always comes through as gratitude. That’s how you know, “My God, I’m being taken care of. I’m being protected. Everything I want is being provided for me. I’m the one who can restrict it. And I’m the one who can un-restrict and set it free.”

It’s all with you. God’s part is already done and even greater is in store for you. It’s held for you and protected for you. So take care of yourself. Take care of your ten percent, which includes your body, mind and emotions. It also includes taking care of yourself by doing spiritual exercises, taking time to go within to resource yourself in the divine light of who you are.

When you consider that you are the light and you are that sound, that’s celestial. That’s of a nature that transforms. So it takes you and lifts you as you become greater and greater.

In some way we’re allowed the illusion of separation, the illusion that we can turn away. So if your physical eyes and your physical ears are blind and deaf, you can still know, “I’m seeing and hearing God. I know It in the silence. I translate It in whatever I do see. And if that’s darkness, I translate it to the light.”

The ten percent level is about experience. Things come to you from the spirit in a whole variety of ways for your experience as a soul learning and growing in this world. A lot of that has to do with you working it out in your life so that no matter what happens, you love and accept. You don’t go against yourself. You don’t put yourself down. You honor yourself just the way you honor God because you and the Lord are one.

Baruch Bashan

John Morton, Spiritual Director of MSIA

Question: How Can I Work with Spirit in Taking Care of Myself in My Ten Percent Level?
