Before we get into Services I get in a little email and IM time stateside…then Cleora and I decide on an early morning adventure of catching the skycat (catamaran) from our Double Bay pier to the Circular Quays where the Sydney Opera House is. It is beautiful today with the air cooler and the sun warmer. Once we clear the pier the Skycat takes off like a rocket and we’re gliding across the waters past sail boats and scenic coastal views. Every once in a while the salty spray catches us by surprise and we let the sun dry our faces. We dock at the quays (pronounced “keys”) and take off to walk around for some exercise. We scan for a good breakfast or at the very least a good espresso and choose sipping the espressos and watching ferries and other ships glide, rock and bob across the harbor. This is such a vibrant harbor. We have just enough time to get back to the skycat for our return trip. I use this time for some reflection outside in the sun as we speed for our home pier. I would have loved to have spent the day going from port to port around the coast, but Traveler work calls us and before that a little more nourishment in the form of breakfast.

Back at our hotel we find Lesley and Vincent finishing their breakfast and they remind us that they’re soon to be off to do Services at Julie Chenery’s while we stay at the hotel for Services today. Anita Maria is our hostess here today; she does a beautiful job of preparing each person for their Service. The day whips by in between meeting and greeting our long-time Sydney friends. Then we’re off to the Quays again this time to have dinner at one of our favorite restaurants there, Aria. There’s almost a full moon tonight over the Opera House and the look is magical. John, Leigh, Cleora and I enjoy a catch up time with each other over some very savory food; Vincent and Lesley have opted for a quiet night together. I love getting as much time as possible down here at the harbor…it’s such a treat. Oh well, time to return to our hotel, but we know we’ll be back…to the harbor that is! Sweet dreams to all — perhaps with a Traveler or two!

DAY 8 — SYDNEY

Another lovely day in paradise — at least the paradise in the view out our window this morning. Gentle sun highlights the waters on which ferries and a few sailboats are gliding by in the distance. Some “caw-caw” of the native birds let us know we’re in a different land. We’re both a little dazed this morning and decide to go down the block to try out the Indigo restaurant for breakfast. This turns out to be a great idea — good organic coffee, huge omelets with free range eggs, and amazingly yummy Turkish bread with passion fruit and lime preserves. It is very fun also eating on this island in the middle of the street — lots of action on both sides of us. Lesley and Vincent on the way back from their stroll stop by. Ah, it’s one of those moments when I feel like I could stay sitting under the tree drinking espressos and eating toast all day. Still the urge to move on grabs us as we do a little window shopping on the way back to the hotel. Services is in full swing today as Chris Haupt joins Lesley, Cleora and me. Julie Chenery helps to set up our rooms and we’re in full swing.

Click here to view photo slideshow by David Sand from the BlessingsFest in Sydney, Australia, 2009

We break for lunch at Indigo again. This time there’s a much larger group with us and Indigo rises to the occasion with our Irish Carmel, our waitress, riding herd for all of our various orders. Bless her! Back for an afternoon of Services and then we gather with John and Leigh for the BlessingsFest dinner. David Sand has arrived fresh from his sojourn to Uganda too; he’ll be doing photos during our Sydney events. Anita Maria has coordinated all the logistics for this event and she has overseen all the preparations. Our heartfelt thanks to her for her caring and willingness to do what it takes to support this fundraising event. 19 people plus staff participate tonight.
