{"id":88566,"date":"2017-07-19T11:21:45","date_gmt":"2017-07-19T18:21:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.msia.org\/newdayherald\/archives\/88566-joy-seminar-nigeria-copy"},"modified":"2017-07-21T12:54:06","modified_gmt":"2017-07-21T19:54:06","slug":"windermere-tours-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.msia.org\/newdayherald\/archives\/88566-windermere-tours-2017","title":{"rendered":"Windermere Tours 2017"},"content":{"rendered":" \u00a0 \n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">I guess you don&#8217;t have to look far to find out where the term hay ride came from.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>You&#8217;re thinking, &#8216;I&#8217;ll bet it has something to do with hay.&#8217;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And who am I to argue that point?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Well, this year we bought some hay bales and put them in the back of the ranch pickup truck.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Okay, pretty exciting so far.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Then, we thought, we have extra hay.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>What do we do with it?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Archery?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>No, too pointed.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Sofa?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>What? What else you got?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Sofa, jeez.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Where&#8217;d ya get that hay futon?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>IKEA?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>No.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">We came up with a great idea.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Not ikea, idea.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We put the extra hay bales in the ranch trailer.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Not the Winnebago.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Do we have one of those?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Nope.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The red wooden sided trailer that was used to transport valuable art work from San Francisco to<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Hugh Hefner&#8217;s in Beverly Hills.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Wow, not.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But it is red sided and it&#8217;s never been to Beverly Hills, but as it turns out, it&#8217;s really great for people to sit on hay bales and look around the ranch as they jostle (understatement) about down the trail on their way to market (Whole Foods, jeez).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Turns out they liked it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The tour goers that is.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And, I&#8217;m thinking very few hay rides traverse four wheel drive roads, have to wait for an insistent albeit playful donkey to get out of the road (after a few hugs and kisses \u2013 don&#8217;t you love our &#8216;people&#8217;?)<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Joker is our donkey&#8217;s name.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Someone asked if Joker was the name he came to Windermere with.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I said with all the seriousness I could muster on a day so full of laughs and joy, &#8216;you must be joking.&#8217; <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I think it was funnier at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And yeah, it was a day full of great people that came to Windermere to bless and be blessed. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>I know that because they said things like,&#8217;we&#8217;re so blessed to be here.&#8217; I told them I was blessed too but by then they were scrambling up Queilin Rocks, yanking off their shoes and socks (the rock vibrates, honest)<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>to experience the healing qualities that abound there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">We called in the Light just because and we chanted a bit out loud and silently and just took in the soft air and the fog that sat so silently along the coastline far below us.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Just another one of those moments that wrap your heart with a soft cuddly hug to be taken with you for well, the rest of your life.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>That&#8217;s a cool thing about Windermere.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>You can order your peace and joy to go.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>&#8216;would you like sugar with that sir?&#8217;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Naw, it&#8217;s sweet enough already thanks.&#8217;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">We said hi to the chickens as we drove by but who knows what they said back.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It&#8217;s hard to find a good chicken interpreter these days.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Really.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Then as we climbed the hill above the barn we passed Matt and Rita. I called out to folks way back in the trailer not to feed the indigenous wildlife to which Matt broke into the best ape in a deodorant commercial I&#8217;ve ever seen. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">We made it to the famous tree swing.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Not viral, but famous I think.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It was about as fun as usual as in the rope and the branch held fast while old guys with a bit of a gut (me, jeez) swung and laughed and laughed and swung.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We made our way past the Garden House and on to the West Side&#8217;s grove of Oaks and of course the ponds.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Ah, the ponds.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They never disappoint.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>At one point I stood alongside the peace pole gazing across the rippling waters and pink floating lilies at the people talking and laughing all around the pond.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yes, another one of those moments.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Man, I love being with neat people at that ranch.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Lastly, we jettisoned the trailer for the Kubota and the ranch 4 wheel suburban and headed for the &#8216;lower property&#8217; where the sky opens up and the land sweeps away to the sea as if to say, &#8216;here I come my beloved.&#8217; <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And yes, Valentino the beloved llama of Windermere was standing on a point high above the sea awaiting our blessings, kisses, and okay a few alfalfa pellets.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Do llamas have basics?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Valentino is so cool he could start his own college fraternity.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Phi Kappa Llama.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Hmm&#8230;. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">We 4 wheeled down further to see the goats.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Valentino flashed us a peace sign as we left.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Really, I think he did.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The goats were well, enthusiastic.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They&#8217;re sweet though and it&#8217;s obvious they haven&#8217;t learned the pickpocket tricks so aptly demonstrated at petting zoos around the World.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">We made our way back to the &#8216;top&#8217; of the property and hung out at the barn for a bit.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Some folks painted peace words on some rocks we&#8217;d collected in order to place them at the base of the peace pole by the pond.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Or take with them.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Whatever.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I have no attachment to rocks.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Well, maybe Windermere rocks.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Lots of hugs and smiles and just like that the van was disappearing over the hill above the barn leaving behind a trail of dust and peace and love.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>That night a few of us gathered in front of the Bunk House where you have like the most amazing view in Southern California, and watched the 4<sup>th<\/sup> of July fireworks shows put on by the cities of Goleta and Santa Barbara.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And yes, we were looking DOWN at the fireworks.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Very cool.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The moon high above was smiling, a soft cool breeze tickled our faces, and yeah, we had some ooh&#8217;s and aah&#8217;s and laughs.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A magical place, old Windermere.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Thanks to everyone that helped!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I hope they all take away as much Windermere as I did.<span
