{"id":89476,"date":"2017-11-07T07:36:53","date_gmt":"2017-11-07T15:36:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.msia.org\/newdayherald\/archives\/89476-fabulous-free-the-magic-of-completion-copy"},"modified":"2017-11-09T15:19:22","modified_gmt":"2017-11-09T23:19:22","slug":"a-sneak-peek-into-100-ways-to-health-well-being-with-paul-kaye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.msia.org\/newdayherald\/archives\/89476-a-sneak-peek-into-100-ways-to-health-well-being-with-paul-kaye","title":{"rendered":"A Sneak Peek into 100 Ways to Health &#038; Well-Being with Paul Kaye"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Author and meditation expert, Paul Kaye, not only walks his talk, he dances it!<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps writing books like <em>Living the Spiritual Principles of Abundance &amp; Prosperity<\/em>, <em>What\u2019s It Like Being You? <\/em>(with <em>New York Times<\/em> bestselling author, John-Roger) prepare Paul for his expertise and his workshop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msia.org\/event\/100wthaw111417\">100 Ways to Health &amp; Well-Being<\/a> at the Peace Awareness Labyrinth &amp; Gardens.<\/p>\n<p>When I question Paul about his favorite ways to feel good, he promptly responds, \u201cMovement!\u201d He ducks into a closet. He returns brandishing a wooden sword \u00e0 la Mr. Miyagi from the <em>Karate Kid<\/em>. He asks, \u201cHave you ever seen a tai chi sword?\u201d (Did you know there was such a thing? Neither did I.)<\/p>\n<p>He goes on to explain, \u201cEverybody can make time for movement.\u201d Paul puts the sword down. \u201cNot hours but 2 minutes here and there.\u201d Demonstrating he says, \u201cLike a pli\u00e9!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other non-negotiables include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msia.org\/experience\/meditation-spiritual-exercises\">spiritual exercises<\/a> (a sort of meditation) and sleep. (In addition to the 100 Ways to Health &amp; Well-Being workshop, Paul hosts a monthly popular <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peacelabyrinth.org\/resources-blog\/2017\/10\/18\/the-sound-of-heavenly-music-rx-for-the-stressed-zq6cq\">Introduction to Meditation<\/a> event.) \u201cIf I don\u2019t get 8 hours, my performance suffers mentally, physically and emotionally. It shows in behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And Paul\u2019s favorite health food? \u201cSprouted flax seeds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yikes! Intimidation creeps into my consciousness. Cautiously I ask if any cheat days are allowed. \u201cIce cream,\u201d says Paul very matter-of-factly. \u201cIt\u2019s important to keep the basic (inner child) happy and not be in deprivation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While on the subject of food, I mention the superhero blueberry. Many call the cute purple berry a superfood. Some studies state happy hormones (serotonin) increase and inflammatory issues decrease by eating the fruit. \u201cBut (the consumption of) blueberries doesn\u2019t work for everybody,\u201d says Paul. \u201cSome say it also causes joint problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So in this vast arena of health which expert has Paul\u2019s attention? \u201cGary Taubes.\u201d Apparently, the Harvard, Stanford and Columbia University educated writer \u201ctook the lid off fats, grains, and sugars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How does he counsel someone who likes sugar? Paul doesn\u2019t mince words: \u201cStay off refined sugar because it puts on weight. We have an obesity epidemic in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hmm. I don\u2019t know if I\u2019ll be giving up Oreos soon. I have hope though.
