\nIt\u2019s party time! Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year\u2019s Eve and the Epiphany. Need a reminder? The Epiphany1 <\/sup>takes place 12 days after Christmas and celebrates the arrival of the gift-bearing Magi. To baby Jesus, the 3 Wise Men offered gold, incense and myrrh. In Shakespeare\u2019s reference to Twelfth Night<\/em>, Duke Orsino declares, \u201cIf music be the food of love, play on.\u201d2<\/sup><\/p>\n

At the Peace Awareness Labyrinth & Gardens<\/a> (PAL&G) another wondrous party of the season transpired on November 20th<\/sup>. A few days before Eleanor \u201cMutti\u201d Collins turned 100 years old (on November 28th<\/sup>.) Her daughter, award-winning composer and keyboardist, Merrill Collins poured golden oldies into the marble-floored mansion of the PAL&G. Clarinetist, Alethea Lamb, one of Merrill\u2019s featured Spiraling Music<\/a> company artists (along with other musicians3<\/sup>) played in the foyer. Mutti, looking like a cherubic queen, seemed to enjoy her melodic presents.<\/p>\n

Others basked in the joyful tunes, too. PAL&G office doors were flung open and welcomed joyful melodies such as Ain\u2019t We Got Fun<\/em>. Only natural that Merrill chose uplifting standards. Like her mother, Merrill has adopted the philosophy of \u201ccreating happiness everyday.\u201d Mutti, says Merrill, has been an inspiration for \u201cmaking music everyday\u201d and keeping the \u201cfocus on fun and joy.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to family and friends, Merrill\u2019s musical compositions have touched countless hearts. Her works have been enjoyed by United Nations 50th<\/sup> Anniversary participants. In 2016, she received a Global Peace Song Award. \u201cMusic is naturally, organically and inseparably connected to life,\u201d says Merrill, \u201cjust as the shapes of DNA\/RNA are spirals within our bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness<\/a> (MSIA) Spiritual Director, John Morton aptly signed a photo of Merrill\u2019s mother in the garden with, \u201cFor Mutti, In Paradise Ever More.\u201d Well, with a Merrill Collins concert, carrot cake and kisses from family and friends, who wouldn\u2019t feel Heaven is on Earth? To quote Mutti, the centenarian with a knack for living, \u201cWho doesn\u2019t love a party?\u201d<\/p>\n
