Although there were plans to visit in Venezuela, the trip has been cancelled due to economic/political challenges in the country. In November 2006, John Morton gave an interview on national radio in Caracas, Venezuela on Programa Elba Escobar en Onda/Onda 107.9. Here are highlights from John’s responses to Elba and questions from callers:

From John: Many people, in fact everyone at some level, can relate to the questions asked. We’re all connected. This is one of the realizations of waking up spiritually — we can never be separated from anyone. So how we treat one another is how we treat ourself. And how we treat ourself is in some ways how we treat others. So it’s good to treat ourselves well and it’s good to treat others well. But at times it’s not very easy.

Question: What are the purposes of challenges?

From John: The most difficult challenges are always experiences that create and build our growth inside. It’s important to know that who we are as a Soul is past our emotions, past our thoughts, past the circumstances in our life. Inside it’s always a sanctuary. It’s always a celebration. It’s not a kind of celebration that mocks something that’s terrible. It’s more of an understanding within that there are necessary experiences for our learning. It’s been called the understanding that’s past understanding. This world is a classroom. That’s the natural way spirituality is.

Our spirituality is a source of joy, like a fountain. When we are sad or depressed, it’s like putting a cap on that fountain. In the Bible it says man is to have joy and to have joy more abundantly. Eventually our spirit has to break through.

We all have opportunities to minister to ourselves. Don’t be in a rush. Take your time with any healing process. Understand that you need to go through the process. Do it in the way that your inner counsel tells you. Let others that want to help come to you.

Everyone is well when they leave this world. There’s nothing to fear as we leave this world. There are always things to learn, but there’s no punishment. That’s something we create in our imagination.

Question: What is the function of a spiritual guide?

From John: It just helps us find our way when we’re looking for it. If we know the way, then we don’t need a spiritual guide. But we may enjoy a spiritual companion. There’s a blessing in sharing our life experiences. So we don’t have to do it all alone. The truth spiritually is that we don’t ever have aloneness. We’re always with a companion spiritually.

Question: What are your thoughts about reincarnation?

From John: My experience is reincarnation, or what we call re-embodiment, is when the Soul incarnates once and re-embodies as necessary to learn what it’s here in this world to learn. This world is temporary. But temporary can be for eons. In relation to where eternity is, this world is nothing. But it’s still important and it comes right down to every moment. We have responsibility for every choice that we make in each and every moment.

It’s important to pay attention to our experience to see what’s working and to do the best we can no matter what. That’s where we find out how dedicated we are to our Soul. When it’s really difficult, use your courage and strength to move toward the best instead of reacting to the difficulty or the pain. Someone who is great in the Soul and the Spirit stands up in loving and caring rather than anger or violence. They bring forward a life of peace.

Question: What about times we feel sorrow or burdened?

From John: Everyone has a responsibility to take care of themselves first. So your body is there for you as a temple. It’s how you function in this world. You have the first responsibility to take care of yourself — physically, emotionally, and mentally. You can’t control others, but you can make sure you’re caring for yourself and others.

Hurt is not something that works for any of us. So don’t let yourself be hurt and don’t hurt somebody else. If people want to do things that make life difficult, often we cannot stop them. But the results of what we choose to do can stop us. So choose wisely.

It’s important to understand that we’re something bigger than our body and our personality. That’s the part of us that passes from this world and lives eternally. Our bodies and our personalities don’t live forever. Consider who breathes you, who takes the life into your body.

Take time for your Spirit, to be in worship. You don’t have to go to a place or building to worship. Right now where you are, you can be in worship. Help yourself to let go of any disturbance or worries that you have. Do the best you can to let go of those things that are your entanglements. Do what you can to stay free of those things that block you. Look into your life and take inventory. There are things that are no longer serving you. In your environment where you live, if the picture on the wall is not inspirational to you, take it down. Remove the things that have no meaning or purpose to you. Keep your environment clean and clear. This will reflect internally to you, so that you are clarifying and balancing your life.

As we take in those things that serve us, we also eliminate those things that no longer serve us. The more you can do that as an ongoing process, the healthier and happier you will be. Don’t be surprised if you change who you associate with or change where you live or work. All these things serve in ways to uplift you so that you find your life is inspiring to you.

Question: How do you apply quantum physics to our lives?

From John: There are many influences affecting us constantly — the stars, our genetics, what’s on a micro level, what’s on a macro level. Who we are is bigger than all of those influences as our Soul is playing on the level of God, the God of us all. There is much phenomena in God’s creation, much to learn in the science and the study of how life works and functions. You can spend your whole life observing and studying how life is functioning at any level. But what does it matter if you don’t know how to love yourself or to love your brother or your sister?

If you don’t know how to love, you’ll feel stuck. Everyone needs to love, to give it and to receive it. Everyone needs to live in the truth, to have the courage and the strength to face the truth. The living truth is inside you and in everyone. When we behold it, we see glory. We see beauty. We see integrity throughout all the universes.

Question: When we’re feeling separated and sad, how can we forgive?

From John: It’s important to realize that you are worthy of the forgiveness. You were born worthy. That’s God’s domain. There is one who is anointed in the authority of Spirit that some people refer to as the Christ, which is another way of saying anointed. So anoint yourself so you may go free of the judgment. Be released from the incarceration that you have placed on yourself. Consider you have paid the price in your own judgment. Now you can go free. Let go and receive the healing of the Spirit.

Letting go and forgiving yourself melts the hardness around your heart. Take time each day to be in communion with that loving presence that is the consciousness that forgives all. It’s in your breath. So when you breathe in, you breathe in forgiveness. Accept that forgiveness and give it to others. Trust that in their time, they will accept it too.

Question: Do you have any guidance for single parents?

From John: The teachings of Spirit are constant with every breath. So teach your children the truth. Teach them your love. Allow yourself to have them teach you.

In relationships it’s treacherous territory because we’re going to be brought to our weaknesses and what we need to learn. If we need to learn patience or trust, that’s what our partner will bring to us. If we need to learn commitment or fidelity, our partners will mirror this to us so we learn from each other.

If you can, choose someone who loves you more than you love yourself. Love them more than they love you. This will make your heart grow.
Don’t choose based on hurt, fear or insecurity, such as “I need you.” You need yourself.

Learn to share yourself in ways that are compatible. Be patient. Allow yourself to grow so that someone who is looking for the best in you will find you. Sometimes that means you have to wait a bit. It’s like going to the dance and being willing to wait and have someone ask you. It also means being willing to walk across the room and ask someone else to dance. So go for what you want, but be careful that your fantasies aren’t playing the role of the fool. Rather than reacting in the emotions of the moment, let time reveal what is true.

John Morton and MSIA Staff are currently in South America.
