Soul-Centered Counseling

In this talk to a class of university students, John-Roger contrasts academic education with the more practical ‘education of doing.” In his humorous and clear way, he speaks to students studying spiritual counseling and he makes this point, “I found there are two types of counseling that take place, although there are a lot of approaches. One is the counseling from the ego, and the other is the counseling from yourself. The best type of counseling was for me to sit still long enough to hear what it was you wanted to know.”

He goes on to describe the value of counseling from a place of peace. He says, “Some people say, ‘Well, I can’t have peace because I am busy judging myself.’ Stop judging and come to peace. And they stop judging and they say, ‘I didn’t have to go to peace…it sort of came to me.’ It will be there.”

At the end, J-R says, “I would like to leave you with this thought. If no one else loves you, love yourself because ultimately that is who you’re going to end up with.”
