Do not seek the rewards or recognition of the material world because, if you do, you don't get them inwardly. This is why I tell people, "Don't talk to other people about your spiritual exercises" because you'll get the reward of the world here. The part of us that is connected to Spirit, we call the Soul; every person has one. We call the energy that flows from God, from the source, Light. In the Soul and the higher realms of Spirit, this Light is invisible. But it also flows through every level of our consciousness in this world. It is what touches us when we read or hear truth (the mind), when we feel happy, joyful, and uplifted (the emotions), and when we are energized through the good things that we do (the body). Ultimately, our high self knows what is best for us and nudges us toward the highest, best choices. Our basic self, although it can easily get stuck in habits, is often most happy when we are living in a way that keeps us healthy and well, since its job is to take care of the body.
