The Soul does not want any authority above it because it's made in God's image. That is a primary factor, and when that gets down to the physical level and gets mixed in with the ego, people may say, "You can't tell me what to do", and they will not accept any type of authority. They say, "I'm going to do it my way." And everyone is welcome to do it their way, but what if their way produces misery? And if they want to go for joy, then they must give up those things that make them miserable and move into new ways that will produce joy. And some people would rather do it their way, even if it does not produce joy, than give in to another way, even if that does produce joy. Sometimes people are just like that.

John-Roger, DSS
As you direct yourself from that positive place within you, you can begin to lift everyone around you into the same positive focus. You can contain and absorb the psychic influences that come into you while continuing to direct yourself in a positive way, lifting into more and more awareness of the Sprit within. It's all your choice. Spirit is always present. You need only turn toward it and open yourself to its guidance and direction, and you will be free.

You dwell always in the heart of God.

John-Roger, DSS
The blessings find you because you seek them, knowing they are always with you.

When it gets too bright, you will be tempted to turn away from the Light, but that only leads to despair and heartache and sorrow. I have been there many, many times. I know that many of you who are reading this have been there as well. The only way to avoid despair is to keep facing the Light no matter how it hurts our eyes. We cannot approach the unknowable in terms of the mind, because the mind stops at the limit of the mind; the emotions stop at the limit of the emotions; the imagination stops at the limit of the imagination. This may seem obvious, but it is amazing how many people think that they can use their emotions to solve mental problems and that they can use their minds to find God. These elements of consciousness are just tools. Tools need a guiding hand to do their work correctly. And that guiding hand needs to be a loving one.

Sensation is the other end of the spectrum from love. It is the opposite of peace. The reason so many people find themselves in an endless search for sensation is because they must confront themselves if they move inward to find the peace. That's what makes the quality of peace and love so difficult to find. You decide you want to find peace, you start tuning within, and you find all your troubles, your hurts, your pain, and your disturbances. So you think, "I'm not going to do that; that hurts!" And you go back out into the world. You bum around, run around, and make excuses to go here and there. Yet, when you finally stop, your irritation is still with you.

John-Roger, DSS
Don't make freedom the goal of doing spiritual exercises. It is not the goal because there is no goal. If you do spiritual exercises for twenty years so that you will be free, you may find yourself twenty years later still asking, "Why aren't I free?" If you do spiritual exercises so that you will be disciplined, you may find yourself wondering why you have not achieved discipline. Those things are by-products of doing spiritual exercises, but they are not the reason for chanting the sacred names of God. The reason for doing spiritual exercises is to learn to be aware of the spiritual realms while you are conscious here.

John-Roger, DSS
People may come up to you and say, "You dirty, rotten so-and-so," and all you need to is say, "What else?" They may say, "Is that it?" You say, "Yes. Next?" "Why?" "Forget it. Next." "Well, what I said is important." "No, it isn't. Next." "But what I feel is…" "Forget it. Next." "Well, but what I saw in my mind was…" "Next." "Well, I have this thing inside of me that compulsively…" "Forget it. Next." "That just leaves me." "Ah, wonderful. Marvelous. You. The most important person in the world. And that 'you' is everybody."

John-Roger, DSS
Service is the highest form of consciousness in the physical world. When we recognize our love of humanity, we do whatever has to be done to express that love to and with others. That is called service. The service I am talking about is not your occupation. Your vocational expression (for which you are paid) often fulfills the planet's karmic law, which is that by the sweat of your brow you earn your living. That is perfect, but it is not the service I am dealing with here.

John-Roger, DSS
When something is in your way, ask yourself how you can love it. That is when you will find out just how willing you are to seek the good and the Divine.

John Morton, DSS
