Learning in the spiritual dimensions becomes an intensely personal experience. There is nothing abstract about it. What you learn happens to you. Actually, this is the way it is here on Earth, also, though we often try to make it abstract and so we then miss the point. For example, if you have a series of car accidents in a fairly short period of time, there is likely a lesson in that for you. If you persist in thinking of the car accidents as separate, unrelated incidents or as being someone else's fault or having nothing to do with you, you make your experience abstract and you miss the lesson.
