On Sunday August 26, IIWP Representative, Cristina Rivero, organized the planting of a peace pole in the city of Pinamar, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.  The event took place at the corner of two streets in the city where many people pass by. The community planned the event in celebration of this year’s International Day of Peace coming up in September (click here for more events you can attend!)

Cristina emailed me the following about the planting:

Pinamar is now integrated to the net of caretakers of peace

Pinamar, Argentina

Yesterday, one of our residents, Marta Galucci and a group of neighbors of  Pinamar  planted a “Peace Pole” in the space located at Ave Bunge and Playa (Main city avenue and Oceanside. Present at the event were: The Secretary of State and Security, Juan Jose Rodriguez; Secretary of Tourism, Carlos Bucheli; President of the City Council, Alberto Germain; Cristina Rivero, IIWP Representative who explained the symbolism of the event and invited Pinamar inhabitants to share this message of peace.

Cristina mentioned the commencement of this tradition in 1946 after Nagasaki. Then she explained the principles of IIWP. The institute focuses on finding and choosing peace personally,  in everyday life.

After the Ceremony, Cristina offered an open workshop from IIWP.

The statements “may peace prevail on earth” and “peace is present” can be read on the peace pole.
