John-Roger presented this talk for graduates during an Insight Transformational Seminar weekend. His address is filled with guidelines for living life to its joyous fullness. He challenges the graduates to take what they’ve learned about themselves into the
world of their daily lives and go beyond the information into doing.

He begins this way, “You’ve already got this horizontal approach down. You’ve measured yourself up against everybody and everything: how good you are, how bad they are, how right you are and how wrong they are. Now that you’ve mastered all that, let’s try another approach. Let’s see how deep you can go inside of yourself to find something unique that’s been new to you prior to this moment. To change how you see life, look at it a little differently.
That’s all you have to do.”

He gets to the essence of his message in this way. J-R says, “Give yourself permission to live in the center of who you are: not just in the physical heart but in and from the spiritual heart, the loving heart. Our loving heart wants to be able to give love and receive love but I’ve found out that it doesn’t know how to do that.”

Among many examples and techniques, J-R offers this one as a way to start practicing. “Since you’re the only one inside of you that knows when you’re thirsty and when you’re hungry,” he says, “you’re gonna have to handle that according to yourself because others won’t know. You can say it lovingly like this, ‘From now on I’m gonna’ drink when I’m thirsty. I won’t wait for you to tell me, and I’m going to eat when I’m hungry, ’cause you won’t know. And I’m gonna’ give you exactly the same privileges. You’re gonna’ be free around me and I’m gonna’ take the same freedom that I give you.’ ” That’s the message: take freedom for yourself and give it away until it helps!
