Ode to Thee, Beloved Red Rose: A Poem

Marjorie Eaton shares this poem with us, and includes this info:

“Outside the entrance door was an old rose bush with a giant stem growing high. The one lone red rose bloomed 3 weeks straight ’till a wind storm finally ended it.  I wrote this poem to honor it.”

Ode to Thee, Beloved Red Rose

Glorious red rose that shed thy light
Blessed by the thy scent and beauty bright.
Thee grew and grew beyond thy thorns,
Then shed the dreams to blossom at morn.

Glorious red rose that dwelt three weeks
And graced mine garden at its peak.
It wasn’t your body that stunned us so;
But thy loving grace that moves me now.

No different then all else in the rose bed,
It was thee that took courage to lift thy head.
And all you revealed is eternal light giving sun
And all music from heaven now has begun.

A mere three weeks the garden you blessed
instead of three days like all the rest.
And so it becomes very clear to me,
Not to lose sight what was given by thee.

It is so, that all roses through rooted in earth,
Grow upward to heaven, in light’s birth.
All are honored to hear wind chimes and bees,
All are blessed by gurgling water at their feet.

All flowers blessed in the blowing wind’s song
All dwell in God’s heart, ‘ere the day long.
Every flower chosen, nurtured and loved by the Creator
Each blossom special in the heart of its maker.

No two alike, yet each is the only begotten one
And beloved red rose your physical life’s done.
The miracle of your 21 days of earth life,
Overshadowed by truth; in God, all are the Light.

A garden bouquet, blossomed on nature Mother’s part,
This brotherhood on Earth from Father God’s heart.

PS from Marjorie:  “I took a picture of the giant red rose, by the way. It was called an Abraham Lincoln red rose, and I sent it with the poem to J-R.   He let me know that he kept the picture.”
