Wales Slideshow

A surprise trip to Wales as we go into the last stretch of the trip in England. Delile and Elda Hinkins (J-R’s brother and his wife) start planning a trip to Wales to find out more about where their ancestors came from. In a fast, serendipitous, and spirit-led chain of events, with trip planning by Jan Shepherd and all-night genealogy research by Ezra Mack, within 24 hours the little side-trip transforms into a full-on bus and train ride into Wales with J-R and the entire crew. Going through Cardiff (the capital), we end up in Merthyrtidfil, the small town where J-R & Delile’s great grandfather was buried, with John calling in the Light at the grave site. In the afternoon we visit Caerphilly castle, the largest moated castle in the British Isles, dating from the 13th century, and we have lunch with a castle view. Then back on the bus and a train ride back to London, where we’re greeted by the Paddingtion train station band as we return.
