We started the night by arriving at the Hyatt Regency in Century City. It’s Saturday, February 3, 2007. Almost three years since we started shooting Spiritual Warriors in Egypt. We entered the doors of the Main Ballroom of the Hyatt and I was so high on what we accomplished — made me humble. Welcome to the DGA awards.

Every year the DGA (Directors Guild of America) vote and nominate the Best Director for the year. Spiritual Warriors made it to the DGA Ballot last year and although we knew we had no chance to win Best Director award for our own David Raynr, we found that we won anyway. We won completion in all of us. We walked the journey of a warrior. We outlasted the hits that would discourage us all who were involved in the film. We won in our hearts a place filled with courage.

That night Martin Scorsese won Best Director for “The Departed.” We at the table, and everyone throughout the Ballroom, stood and honored a great Director. His win was our win. Our win for completing Spiritual Warriors is a win for those in the Hyatt Regency, the Ballroom and the World.
