This is another valuable seminar in which John-Roger, through stories, demonstrations, and his own humble humanity, offers us part of the roadmap for living as Spirit in a human body. Here is how he begins, “There are basically these two parts of our nature. One is the Soul and the other is the ego. The Soul, our Spirit — who we are as a real true being — is really a loving, caring, considerate, uplifting being. And then there’s the ego which comes out of the emotion and the mind. It wants what it wants, and is seductive and deceitful.”

J-R makes it clear that Soul is the one which takes care of the rest of us…or at least, tries to. The egoic part is mean and selfish and all the nasty things that we can possibly think of. “That’s why the flesh is at war with its Spirit,” J-R says, “because these bad habits (or sins, as the Bible says) are passed down from the parents to the kids, to the parents, to the kids, down the line.”

That statement sets up the main message J-R is offering. “At some point,” he says, “we’ve got to break the ‘sucker’ — change the habit of behavior so that even at the time when we’re being mean, we can access an affirmation inside of ourself that says, ‘I’m being mean, but I’m still a loving person in here. I just can’t touch it right now. Give me some time to get through this meanness, and then I’ll touch back to the part of me that is loving.”

J-R’s roadmap is clear. He gives us the system for breaking the habits of the ego. Give it a try and you will be lifted.
