A few years ago, a beautiful friend of mine moved into assisted living. While she was very happy in her new home, she told me once that the thing she missed most was attending live music concerts. She used to be a season ticket holder at one of the best music halls in Los Angeles, but since she no longer drives, getting out was a real challenge.
Being a true music lover myself, I saw an opportunity. We decided to look for concerts and other artistic and musical events in her area that we could attend together. Navigating a wheelchair and getting in and out of the car without mishap has proved to be some of the most fun! We laugh a lot and feel tremendously proud of ourselves when we make it to the different theaters and home again.
I know this is a service to my sweet friend, but it is really in service to myself as well. Not only do I get to help her get out and enjoy some of the things she loves, but I get to experience the beauty of the arts as well.
