Spiritual Principles of Health and Well-Being (Part I) — Live Webcast with John Morton

When the doors opened for the August 21st webcast “Spiritual Principles of Health & Well-Being” with John Morton, eager and loving people came flowing into the Brentwood Ballroom. The webcast, sponsored by MSIA & PTS, was based upon the new book Living the Spiritual Principles of Health & Well Being by Dr. John-Roger with Dr. Paul Kaye.

The gracious Leigh Taylor-Young opened the event, welcoming all, and calling us forward into the Light. A sweet silence filled with loving descended upon the room. Groups from all around the world were gathered in homes and meeting rooms to participate in the class, including: Argentina, Brazil, Australia, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Germany, Mexico, and Sweden, as well as in several states around the U.S.

There was a short, and very entertaining, video clip of John-Roger, founder of MSIA, talking to a group in Berkeley, California, in 1972, about the process of receiving the information that was to be his lecture that evening ā€“ The Three Selves. We were soon to find out that one of those three selves, the Basic Self, was a key element in today’s webcast.

Leigh then introduced John Morton, Spiritual Director of MSIA, who began his presentation of the class by pointing out that the first of the Eight Principles (of Health and Well-Being) is ā€œEarn the Trust of Your Basic Self.ā€ John added that the Basic Selfā€™s job is body maintenance, and certain instinctive behaviors related to self-preservation. The Basic Self also stores memory, registers activities and habit patterns, and handles non-verbal communication.

Our job is to give the Basic Self positive messages, and to create and hold positive images. John led us through an exercise of touching into the Basic Self and offering our support, asking for trust. It was suggested that we could commit ourselves to one daily action that would move us toward greater health and well-being.

John read from the book by John-Roger, Dynamics of the Lower Self, which has wonderful material on the Basic Self. At one point, John gave an impactful demonstration of what happens when you give your Basic Self mixed messages.

John took questions from the audience in the room as well as from the Internet, and was deeply compassionate in his sharing. He offered that the images we hold in our minds are powerful, and that we can direct them with courage. He reminded us of techniques for aligning the Basic Self, Conscious Self, and High Self; and encouraged Basic Self appreciation, along with completing the things of this world.
