John-Roger & John Morton Double Author Booksigning at Yale University

Article imageHistory was made on Wednesday, September 20, 2000, when John Morton and John-Roger had their first double author booksigning at the Yale Bookstore in New Haven, Connecticut. Over thirty people turned out to hear John speak about his first book, “The Blessings Already Are,” which he said he had written to catch up with his mentor, John-Roger, who has published about 37 books.

What I took away for myself from John’s talk was that blessings could be found in every situation, and the journey was to look for them immediately and not stay in the hurt and pain that difficulties bring. He suggested using any tool to help you find the blessing, such as a sunset, looking at your child, anything that would anchor you back into the loving.

J-R shared about his newest book, “Loving Each Day.” It’s a book of short quotations, and great for just picking up and reading a quote or two. John-Roger talked about the awkwardness of trying to put things that cannot be seen (such as loving, spirit, goodness, upliftment) into words so that they could be felt and experienced. I understood him to say that he intended “Loving Each Day” to “kick start” a person in a new direction if they were stuck and unhappy.

John Morton then offered a blessing to the audience. He encouraged us to find any places within us where we might want to make a turn towards a blessing, opening ourselves to the blessing that would be given. I found this to be an immensely powerful experience. A newcomer, unfamiliar with John and J-R, said afterwards, “Did you feel how thick the air got when he did that blessing? I kind of vibrated!”. For those of us that have experienced John’s blessings before, that was as accurate a description as any.

The audience at The Yale Bookstore was delighted to have such a wonderful evening with John and J-R, who generously signed each book and spent time with each attendee. We were also treated to the presence of Los Angelenos Vincent DuPont, Marilyn Hill-DuPont, Eric Albrecht, Olga Schmal, Angel and Doug Gibson and Nathaniel Sharratt. Yale University is moving up in the world!

One of the blessings I experienced was a joyful car ride from Manhattan to Connecticut with new friends Judith Johnson, Katherine Kienke, Joan Beisel and Connie Stomper. We got to practice bringing all of our loving to the places we got lost in on the way! We all agreed it was a very special evening and we were so glad we had the chance to be a part of it.
