An Update from David Morton & Holly Engelman in Karachi, Pakistan

Article imageTwo MSIA ministers, Holly Engelman and David Morton, are traveling in Pakistan and Afghanistan doing humanitarian aid work with Wheels for Humanity in collaboration with the Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA). MSIA Minister, John Morton, had been traveling and serving with them as well, but returned home on January 26. Holly & David will be returning home on January 31. This article is a continuation of articles about their ministry

From an email David Morton sent to John Morton on January 29

Hi John, AKA Mister David Morton Junior.

Well we spent the evening with Dr. Freddy. He thought we were staying for a couple of days and was somewhat disappointed we weren’t staying longer. He and his kids tried to convince us to switch our flights and stay till Saturday. It was just making things complicated so we politely declined. I had a great time with his kids entertaining them with all the things I learned as a kid and just talking with them. We were up until 1:00 a.m. in the morning, while Holly retired early as she has a bad cough thing going on.

Yesterday we left Chaman early with Faizel. It was a nice safe ride with the full moon hanging over Chaman as we drove over Kojak Pass — very peaceful. We had a nice breakfast in his house and then went and distributed the last nine wheelchairs at the hospital where the wheelchairs were stored. Everything went smoothly and then we flew to a hot Karachi, which was a bit of a surprise after the snow we had in Quetta.

Our experience of Kandahar was much different on our second visit — the energy of the Light column was palpable and a definite lift on many levels. This visit was a joy, though we did clear ourselves and, of course, that makes a difference. It would have been fun to have you with us, but maybe another time and another country.

I cannot describe in words the effect the hospitality has had on me personally. I’ve just been totally touched by the loving and humanity extended to us on the whole trip — a genuine blessing. We leave Pakistan with a touch of sadness, leaving all the new friends behind, but we know we’ll return. So, as we sit in the airport we also are looking forward to returning home to our spiritual family.

Please thank everybody for all the loving support and prayers. WHAT A GREAT TRIP WE’VE HAD!
God bless you all.

Salam Aleikum

David Morton
