DAY 13 – THE ROAD TO BOULDER

Wow, I was buzzed all last night (and so it seems were my companions) so sleep was not as restful as we’d hoped. Ah, well, nothing a little espresso and a lot of Spirit can’t fix….and a big breakfast. Then we load up our minivans — Paul and Roger in one and Les girls in the other. This is one of the most beautiful and restful drives of all our trips. Though it is a 9 hour journey we relax and flow along watching the landscape change from dry desert and wide open skies to green pine trees and snow-capped mountains.

On the way are these swift running creeks and rivers, loads of mommy cows and their baby calves, and small frontier and mining towns. Salida is one of these towns and has now become, for the third year in a row, our happy mid-way lunching point. We dine at the First Street Cafe which has a great hamburger and sweet potato fries to live for. We top off our lunch with yummie coffees and teas from the Cowgirl Coffee shop. Then hit the road to make it to Boulder before the sun sets.

Paul is the lead driver and sets a wonderful “restful” pace teaching us how to enjoy the ride even more. ‘Course, we girls talk the entire way…ok, maybe we had a short quiet break…but it’s amazing how much we share on the road…with the guys chiming in on walkies. We are so grateful for this day in nature and with each other.

Arriving in Boulder we check into the famous Hotel Boulderado. This historic grand hotel has the feel of being in the Turn of the Century “Titanic” period….with vaulted stained glass ceiling and the grand dark wooden staircase that we walk up to our fifth floor rooms. I can almost see the spirits of ladies with floor length dresses and parasols and men with starched high collars and long coats passing by us. We’re wanting to walk around a bit and have dinner out on Pearl Street, so we quickly unpack and then meet in time to catch the fading daylight. We decide on Japanese food tonight and it’s a good choice. Many sushi and seaweed salads later we happily return to our rooms to sleep, for tomorrow we start Services in Boulder.

DAY 14 — BOULDER

Breakfast is yummy today…my eyes want everything on the menu, but I decide to go with a delectable omelette. Slowly but surely the crew gathers…we start Services later today so it’s nice to have slept in and then walk around a bit more…it’s great window shopping around here. Paul and we gals go to Reed Bernstein’s for Services today and are joined by Mary Ann Somerville and Bruce Rosenfeld who are in training. Reed is his delightfully curmudgeonly self, making us laugh with his own self-deprecating humor that he shares as a duet with Paul. We get a quick peek at all the violins that Reed makes…quite impressive and beautiful. Reed is also an accomplished grill-meister and spoiled us by grilling our chicken to perfection for lunch.

After Services we decide on dinner again on Pearl street and then it’s time for catching up on more email and bed. John, meanwhile, is supposedly on his way to join us for tomorrow night’s event. Wait…I see by a just in text message that his plane is delayed. Our Valiant Viajero will be arriving in the wee AM. Light to John, the plane and his drive from Denver to Boulder.

DAY 15 — BOULDER

Rise and shine! This is a long day for all of us. I do my routine morning email check and low and behold there is a humor-filled note from John written at 2:30am from his chair at the Hertz check-in at the Denver airport letting us know that he had arrived at 1:13am and was still waiting to get his rental car more than an hour later. Add to that a 50 minute drive to Boulder and plus an early morning breakfast meeting and…yes, our Traveling Traveler had a short night! We crew hit the breakfast table filling up for our day which will end late tonight after the event. John stops by to regale us with his adventures and adds that — would you believe — when he finally got his car the footbrake was stuck and he couldn’t get it off — Yikes! What does a Traveler do?! Throw up his hands, and think….More seminar material! Laughs all the way around as we empathize and acknowledge “life on the road”.

Soon we girls are on our way to Reed’s for the day’s Services; Paul and Roger on to set up for the closed MSIA Q&A tonight. We all rendezvous at the Boulder Inn for a few ordinations, and then John, who’s been going strong all day long, jumps in to carefully sign Spiritual Warriors movie trailer, and the GPTV (God is Your Partner) segment showing John and Leigh at the workplace of the Traveler in their home. In between we are graced with Kate Blakeslee singing in the most endearing and heavenly voice. Just before John comes up we see from the Moments of Peace DVD “When the Traveler Calls” and there is many a glistening eye as we are surrounded in the love coming from J-R’s eyes. John is welcomed up to be with us and he settles in for almost 3 hours, bringing forward amongst us tears, laughter and wisdom. What a blessing! Then we hear the magic “Baruch Bashan” from John’s lips, and it’s a Spirit-filled wrap. We can hardly believe that we’re packed up and in our cars heading back to the hotel in just an hour. Good thing too, ‘cuz it’s midnight, and we still have our luggage to pack for tomorrow is our travel day back to LA. Thank you to all who lovingly and skillfully helped us throughout our visit in Boulder, especially Steve Dreher, Kate Kendrick (co-MSIA Rep with husband, Dan), and many more whose names escape me at this hour.

DAY 16 – FROM BOULDER BACK TO LA

Our last breakfast together on this trip! OK, we are tired this morning, but it’s a happy tired. John stops by our table to say goodbye too. Alll too soon Paul, Celia and Roger hug Jean-Marie and me goodbye as they pack up their car and head to the airport. John will be on his way to the airport in a few hours, and Jean-Marie and I are the finishing crew to complete Services here before we catch our planes later. Once again we head to Reed’s and have one more yummy grilled chicken lunch with the best french beans (thank you, Madonna). A few more afternoon Services and then Jean-Marie takes off for San Diego, and I for Los Angeles. What a blessed and fun trip this has been! Thank you to each and everyone who assisted, helped out, sent Light along our way. We are so grateful for all the sharing! Now we take a moment to send Light to all the Spiritual Warriors crew with J-R in Europe; we hear they are having a most wonderful time! And blessings and Light to the Traveler in each and all of us ’til we travel again.
