New Day Herald

The Distance

He lived up Mandeville Canyon.

About four miles down to Sunset.
Four miles back up.

Down and up.

That was the drive.

I did that for twenty-six years.

At some point, I did the math.

Even traveling much of the year, those drives added up to tens of thousands of miles.

All on that same road.

When you look at it another way, it comes out to about three times around the Earth.

I drove the Traveler around the Earth three times.

Down and up.

Same canyon. Not forgetting driving to Windermere and back.

But while all of that was happening, nothing was standing still.

John-Roger was born September 24, 1934.
He left October 22, 2014.

During that time, the Earth moved around the Sun.
The Sun moved through the Milky Way.

Over those eighty years, this planet traveled over three hundred billion miles through space.

So while I was driving him down and up one canyon, there was a Mystical Traveler and Preceptor on the planet moving through the galaxy.

And while all of that was happening, I was learning.

Learning how to keep the front wheels between the yellow lines on those winding canyon roads late at night.

Learning the right speed going up and down the curves.

Too fast and you drift.
Too slow and you lose the flow of the road.

There were reflectors along the canyon.
You learned not to hit them.

Especially while he was meditating in the car.

You learned how to hold the drive steady.

Smooth.
Aware.
Present.

And after a while, you realize…

it’s not just about driving a car.

Jsu I know you did so much more than driving up and down the canyon. You entertained him, and did so much more along with the other light staff. Thank you Jsu.

Dearest Jsu – So much “said” with such simple-seeming words. With and on the words, I travel with you. With Him…Our Beloved. Thank you. I love you.

This is so beautiful, Jesus. Your service to J-R is one of the greatest gifts of being part of this family. The way you present what his presence means, from the most vast work of the preceptor to a simple practical service to that work, is everything. Thank you.
