An Update from David Morton & Holly Engelman in Kandahar

Article imageTwo MSIA ministers, Holly Engelman and David Morton, are traveling in Pakistan and Afghanistan doing humanitarian aid work with Wheels for Humanity in collaboration with the Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA). MSIA Minister, John Morton, had been traveling and serving with them as well, but returned home on January 26. Holly & David will be returning home on January 31. This article is a continuation of articles about their ministry

From an email David Morton sent to John Morton on January 28

Hi guys,

Well it is our last day in Kandahar, Afghanistan, distributing wheelchairs and it was an excellent day, we dealt with many disabled and they left with smiles on their faces. Unfortunately a kilometer away at the hospital we tried to visit earlier in the week, the al Qaeda fighters were being killed. We could hear the gunfire but did not realize until later what was going on. When we were there earlier visiting at that hospital, Holly, John Morton and I were literally a hundred feet from the windows of the building in which the Arabs were holed up. We stood around taking video and Polaroid photos of ourselves with the Afghans with their Kalashnikov guns who were stopping the Arabs escaping. We didn’t think we were in danger! The American forces arrived early this morning, and so we could not visit the hospital to give some wheelchairs to the patients.

Now we are back inside Pakistan after distributing blankets to the poor, toys to the kids etc. This visit to Pakistan and Afghanistan has been a wonderful experience — the hospitality of everybody has been tremendous and we would return here in the future to help the people without a second thought. Tomorrow we return to Quetta for a small distribution then we start our journey home through Karachi. We will spend the night with Dr. Freddy!, the funniest man in Pakistan, before we head to England.

Our experience of these countries and the people has been a total opposite of what we thought it would be before we left the U.S., they are all just people like the rest of us — with big hearts and a love of humanity. Thank you for all your prayers for our safety — I know they worked.
See you all soon.
God bless,
David Morton and Holly Engelman
