Work Party at Windermere

The October 2007 work party up at Windermere was full of fun and amazing food. The work party crew arrived around 9 a.m. Saturday morning to a lovely breakfast made by Julie Lurie. Eggs, pancakes, and coffee were a great way to start off the morning.

After breakfast, Justin Jayne supervised his mighty crew of Milo Page, Gabe Morgan, Robert Peake, and Mark Lurie to start the work. George Pace from Windermere was right in the middle of the action too. They were building a foundation for a new deck on the side of the bunk house. All of the guys dug a total of eleven holes, using different tools such as shovels and even a jackhammer! By the time they were finished digging the holes, it was time for lunch.

On the menu: SANDWICHES! Julie, Val Kampmeier, and Ann Bruggemann prepared a make-your-own sandwich buffet. We enjoyed our meal outside under some tents that were put up earlier in the morning. When lunch was done, once again, the men were back to work!

Since the holes were ready, all they had to do was fill them with cement to make a support system for the deck. This was some hard work, because mixing cement is not an easy thing to do. They had filled up all of the holes just in time for some fun before dinner.

Suprisingly enough, we had time for two more events during our work day! During our lunch break, Gabriel Marvis was finishing up filming the rest of his first short movie. This was very exciting to get the final shots in. Gabe is starring, directing, and producing his first production. It will be posted on youtube.

The girls of the Lurie crew, Sophie Marvis and Natasha Marvis, decided to hit the pond! With their wet suits, surfboard, boat, and paddles, they were prepared for anything! Since the girls looked so cute in the background, there was also a music video of Milo Page singing “My Girl” with his acoustic guitar, while the girls were splashing around in the back. It was very cute.

After this fun packed day we finally sat down for an incredible dinner. There were juicy, tender ribs with a homemade sauce from the courtesy of Mrs. Lurie. Baked potatoes, asparagus, and salad were some of the sides you could have with your ribs. Shortly after people finished their yummy meals, they headed up stairs to the bunk house to do a little birthday celebration for Justin Jayne. Mark Lurie whipped up some delicious whipped cream with fresh berries and Julie put a huge batch of chocolate chip cookies in the oven. We sang happy birthday and hung out for a while.

Soon enough the day was over, and what a day it was! The kitchen was cleaned up, and people started to head out. The Lurie family still wanted to carry on the tradition of a movie night after the work parties, so Ann and Lynn joined them to watch a movie starring the lovely Marilyn Monroe.
