An Interstate Love Story

Article imageWhen Kia Ninos was in a serious motorcycle accident, the need for Light was urgent. Joan Shea writes about a very special ministry that took place in San Francisco, and in the hearts of many ministers across the United States.

Our ministry began on April 17th. I received an e-mail that Kiara Edwards-Ninos, daughter of Santa Fe minister, Katherine Ninos, had been in a severe motorcycle accident on Easter Eve and was in critical condition in San Francisco General Hospital. I had just returned home from a long day at work as an elementary school counselor and as I read the e-mail and sent the Light, I felt that was the best I could do right then. I was moved to make a few calls to ministers living in the city of San Francisco, but at that time no one was available to go to the hospital.

The next day, I put out a request for Light to the Northern California ministers on our e-mail list. I called ministers living and/or working in San Francisco and left many messages. I felt that I should go to the hospital myself, but my energy was so low that I didn’t see how I could do that. I felt overwhelmed with how to minister to Katherine and Kiara myself and how to get other ministers involved.

I did some free-form writing and realized that Spirit was in charge, not me. Spirit would convince people to participate—I didn’t have to do that. All I had to do was ask. That was a great relief!

As I moved into that awareness, I began getting responses to the e-mail and phone requests I had left for Light and hospital visits. A small group of people stepped forward to go to the hospital. A larger group of people responded by e-mail that they were holding the Light.

I was moved to write an e-mail update to the people sending the Light, letting them know who was going to the hospital and asking that they hold the Light for those ministers, too. The first time I went to the hospital after that email and called in the Light—boy, I really felt the presence of the people holding the Light. I felt like Spirit was showing me that those people holding the Light on the inner level were a “battery” for the live communion.

Having that battery of ministers holding the Light made all the difference in our work with Kiara and Katherine. Whether we were visiting her at the hospital or working with her hourly on the inner, our experience of the Light work taking place was amplified by the presence of our battery.

In my next update, I communicated that vision of how people could serve as a battery. I was also guided to ask that ministers let me know if they wanted to be on the battery and if they wanted to continue receiving updates on Kiara. I was asking for a commitment. Within about 36 hours I heard back from 40+ people that they wanted to be a part of the Light battery!

4/26, Kiara Update

“Hello Everyone –
Thank you all for your ministry to Kiara. Katherine says that Kiara’s fever is down, and the swelling is reduced. She told me last night that whatever happens there’s a palpable presence of Peace in the room and with Kiara and that has been such a blessing for her and her family.”

At some point in those first few days, I talked with Patti Rayner at Heartfelt about the situation and she e-mailed me a copy of the Ministering Angel Handbook. I found it so powerful that I e-mailed a copy to everyone serving on the battery. Many people responded thanking me for sharing that information with them. One person was in the midst of assisting a friend make his transition and was especially grateful for the information.

During this time, Kiara was experiencing many physical challenges. Her mother, Katherine, had left three children at home in Santa Fe and needed to return there for awhile. I had the sense that Kiara would need a lot of support at that time. Spirit gave me an idea about providing her 24-hour inner support. At first I wasn’t sure how it would work or if people would even want to do that. But as I sat down to send an e-mail to the now 40+ ministers serving on the battery, the words flowed and the idea unfolded, and I invited ministers to participate in a 24-hour ongoing Light work and support team on the inner:

“The way I see that happening is that each minister could sign up to be a vehicle for the Spirit to work through on the inner for one hour a day. During that time you could be tuning in, sending the Light, participating in prayer communion, and whatever other Light work Spirit has for you to do.
As Spirit does the work through us, I can see how we could be doing other things at our appointed hour, such as working, sleeping, etc. By signing up for an hour, we’d be saying,
