Prana Festival and Concert Begins the Conference of the Mystical Traveler

Tears of grateful recognition came to my eyes as Penelope and I walked into Prana for the Prana Festival on Wednesday, the first day of Conference this year, celebrating 50 amazing and wonderful years of the Traveler as we know it. I was greeted by the smiles and hugs of familiar and unfamiliar faces, introduced to a number of new friends and once again, as always, felt like I was home. Welcome Home, Alison!

We took the tours of all 3 buildings, marveled at the history and architectural delights, and generally basked in the Light and Love so palpably present. We returned to Prana to find iced tea and cookies available in the dining room, and amid much enthusiastic reconnecting, it was soon announced that lunch was ready. We all gathered around the Labyrinth as Paul Kaye called in The Light, and we chanted, not just 3, but 5(!) Ani-Hus. Again, the tears. Gratitude, longing, comfort, joy…

I must congratulate and thank the food preparation team for the excellent repast. There was a fresh and colorful kale salad, baked beans, barbecued chicken, hot dogs, and of course, chips, sauerkraut, relishes and garnishes so everyone could design their own lunch as they liked. Lunch was a quieter time, with small groups gathered at tables around the property, in- and out-of-doors. We had delightful conversation with a number of folks, some who sat with us for a time, some who were simply passing by on their way to or from their own tables. It was a warm and congenial setting and it was with full tummies and full hearts that we made our way back into the main foyer area where the concert was to be held.

The event also included a concert entitled “The Travelers Through Their Music” featuring lovely piano music from Merrill Collins, vocals from Cheri Jamison, and clarinet by Alethea Lamb. Beautiful!

With my travel from Alaska and being unconditioned for the warmer climes of Southern California, I was ready to return to Laren and Penelope’s home (such gracious hosts!) to re-charge and be ready for the evening’s festivities. All in all, this day alone was worth my trip down here, yet it was the precursor of a grander weekend to come. I am ready!
