Spiritual Warriors screened at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana on Sunday February 3rd 2008, followed by a Q&A session with Jsu Garcia and Fadel Gad. The screening complemented the Bowers Museum’s current world class exhibit from the British Museum: ‘Ancient Egypt Treasures’. Here’s a review of the film…

“Rare it is for a film to have staying power, to linger in the viewer’s mind. Rarer still it is for a film to impart concepts that one desires to consciously impart into the daily act of living. Spiritual Warriors does both. Through vignettes carefully wrought and dialogue well chosen, the film serves as a meditation of lives lived in self-serving random carelessness and greed, juxtaposed against a life of none other than care beyond self towards others.

The film beautifully emphasizes the impartial, temporal measure of our lives and the consequences of our choices. Folding into this living, the lessons not learned come back to haunt yet sometimes with a second chance for redemption. If in the fortunate instance of encountering a true teacher — a messenger of love and loving — to turn away is to deny a potential life of god-like qualities. To place trust and embrace this messenger is a path to forgiveness and love, a path to understanding the difference between harboring hate or becoming a shelter of love.

Above all, our actions, small and seemingly insignificant, deliberate or random, face ultimate consequences and challenges. As so well depicted in Spiritual Warriors, these adversarial moments that challenge and distress must be embraced and met with fortitude; we must be seekers of truth. We must become that god-like spiritual warrior.”
