Spiritual Warriors has now screened 11 times with the Santa Fe Film Festival’s Cinema Cafe, and continues to screen with four final showings each at 6.30PM on Thursday April 24th, Friday April 25th, Sunday April 27th and Wednesday April 30th. Jsu Garcia joined the folks in Santa Fe for one screening on April 9th, and Zoe Golightly and Phil and Brooke Danza kicked off the screenings hosting the first four screenings March 28th – April 1st. Brooke’s account of how the adventure began follows …Thank you John-Roger, for the experiences that this movie continues to provide.

Zoe Golightly, Phil Danza and myself (Brooke Danza) took off for four showings of Spiritual Warriors in Santa Fe, New Mexico the end of March. To get there we drove across California, Northern Arizona, and New Mexico via Highway 40, parts of which used to be the famous historic Route 66. We arrived in Santa Fe on a brisk, windy Spring day to meet with the technician at the Cinema Cafe. Cinema Cafe is a fun small local theatre that holds the annual Santa Fe film festival. Its set up with cantilevered couches and tables, rather then the usual theatre chairs for maximum comfort.

At our first showing on Friday March 28th, we met a friend who’d had the vision and had done the follow through to get Spiritual Warriors shown in Sante Fe. Throughout the week along with some other wonderful locals, she was our guardian angel introducing us to many aspects of Santa Fe. At our first showing, a number of the local MSIA community showed up, along with many local folks. At around 80 people, the theatre was a sell out. Afterwards at a question and answer session led by Zoe, people discussed the movie’s highlights.

Over the next few showings, we met people from the local Sikh community, the Labyrinth Society, film festival members, or just people who saw an ad in the paper, or picked up a flyer from places like the local Whole Foods, or just happened to be walking by and were attracted to see the movie. Hundreds of Spiritual Warrior books were handed out to all, to the gratitude of those receiving them. One person came back the next night, to share the ideas he was getting from the book, and how he wanted to rush home to finish the book. The question and answer sessions each showing became lively discussions about Spirit, and what the movie meant to them. People commented on the symbolism in the movie, and the dualities presented. One local native American Indian expressed that the teachings in the movie matched what he had been taught by the local Indian shamans growing up, such as that there are no victims, that its all just a struggle inside us.

We found out there was a New Age convention in town, so we stopped in one day to pass out books and flyers to many grateful recipients. The one night we didn’t show the movie, we arranged a get together of local MSIA’ers and some new people to watch the John-Roger DVD’s Journey to the East taken from J-R’s travels to Egypt and Israel as a compliment to the Spiritual Warriors movie. Phil and Brooke shared with the group some of their experiences having traveled on the trips, and Phil shared how NOW had put the discs together. Those are some powerful DVD’s for anyone who hasn’t seen them.

While in Santa Fe, due to some coaching by the locals, we were able to experience a Japanese hot tub at Ten Thousand Waves, the local snow covered mountains at over 10,000 feet, a local hike through the forest complete with bubbling brook, Taos and the suspension bridge across the Rio Grande, old town, plus some colorful local eateries. All of which gave us first-timers to Santa Fe a taste of the beautiful local culture, and the wonderful people who live there.

The movie was such a hit in Santa Fe, that the theatre proprietor asked to extend the showings for another couple of weeks. As a result, Jsu Garcia came for a special screaming in Sante Fe at Cinema Cafe on Wed April 9th at 6:30PM.
