A Light-Filled Spa Day for Kids of All Ages — Children Lighting the Way: A Family Spiritual Spa Day

“The things that were important to you in the first few years of your spiritual work are still important. It is still important to send the Light to people in a direct way. It is still important to ask for the Light to fill, surround, and protect you. It is still important to place the Light ahead of you in the activities of your day. It is still important to chant your initiatory tone, for it is the foundation of your spiritual health. Don’t let these habits slip from you as the years go by. They are your strength.”
– John-Roger (From: Fulfilling Your Spiritual Promise)

Hi Everybody! It’s good to see you. If you like, let’s start by taking a moment to call in the Light. Close your eyes if that suits you….

Connect with the childlike place inside of you, where everything is all good, all the time, and there is wonder and calm and oneness with God.

Feel it however you feel it… Maybe like floating on your back on warm water, completely supported, with the water gently rocking you, relaxing you more and more… Whatever puts a smile in your heart right now…

Just ask the Light to be with you for the highest good…

This month’s Spiritual Spa Day at Peace Awareness Labyrinth & Gardens (PAL&G) had a very special focus. It was the first official Family Spa Day, with a special focus on children. Everything about the day was planned with kids as the focus (right down to the brunch menu featuring cheeseburgers!).

Prana, the headquarters for PAL&G and home to our spa days, was buzzing with the energy and laughter of some 50 children and their parents and loved ones. Our focus for the day? “Children Lighting the Way,” and learning more about working with the Light each and every day, in all kinds of ways.

This was the first event of its kind and began with an idea when Tatiana Jimenez (Taty) arrived at Prana about a year ago. She had the same experience that many of us might have shared at some point or another: “Wouldn’t it be great to have more youthful energy and lots of children blessing us with their joy at the Traveler’s Home?”

As she saw it, it was the Traveler’s inspiration guiding her to assist in opening up the space for kids to “come Home.” Taty began to work with Luz and Gabriel Doynel (mom and her 9 year-old boy at the time), the Presidency and PAL&G team members Marina Van Wormer, Carol Jones and Helen Bradley, to turn the vision into a reality. Shortly after, Rick Greene joined in bringing David Bransky’s magic into the mix. This is how Children began to Lead the Way…

David Bransky and Rick Greene were our facilitators for the day, with support from Soul Dance by Alisha Hayes, who brought us some great music for boogie-woogie time; Angel Gibson and Karen Powell, who wrote a beautiful story on every-day kids living as Spiritual Warriors for story-telling time; and a group of 26 assistants led by Taty as the Team Captain and MC of the Day.

After we called in the Light, David mentioned the Loving Each Day e-mail quote that is at the start of this article. He shared that the timing was perfect, arriving the day before our spa day, and reminding us of how important and powerful it is to call in the Light, and how the basic tools of working with the Light serve us so well and give us a solid foundation for living and loving.

We had full-on participation, right from the start. A whole series of questions flew to the facilitators, especially about lunch (when is lunch time? what’s for lunch? where is everybody going to sit?) and whether we were going to play in the water in the courtyard reflection pool outside (the idea got quite a cheer, but alas, it wasn’t on the agenda). One great question asked about why we call Prana and the gardens a Spa, since it is different from the places people usually go to for massages, saunas, etc.

Rick shared that what we have at Prana and the Gardens is a spiritual spa, and it’s a place where we come to massage our Spirit. What a great way to put it, and it helped set the tone for the rest of the day.

We did a lot of work with the Light, and looked at the difference between asking for the Light to do something (like get a brother or sister to do something we want them to do) and simply asking for the Light for yourself and everyone else for the highest good. Those are really magic words! And it makes it so much simpler to just ask for the Light for ourselves and others, no matter what the situation is. That and asking for the highest good really does cover all the bases.

We talked about times when we might want to ask for the Light (to bless our guitar and bless us as we learn how to play it, or to help us when studying for a test or going to our first day of school). The timing for this spa day was perfect, as a new school year is starting for most of the kids during the next two weeks.

We danced together, and sent love to each other while we danced and looked into each other’s eyes. We sat in little huddles and worked with art supplies to draw pictures of situations where we could send the Light and come up with action steps so we could practice handling things that can happen with our families, at school, and in the world. And then we had brunch! Pancakes and eggs and cheeseburgers, and salads and fruit salad—all very yummy and prepared with a lot of love and joy by Chef Victoria and her Super Kitchen Team.

With everybody fueled up and ready for more working with the Light, we moved outside for a special surprise: Bubbles! We had a great big bubble-maker with us, operated by spa day assistant Jeffrey Semigran. Sitting on the grass, we again thought of more things we wanted to send the Light to—people, situations, all kinds of things—and imagined them in the bubbles as they went up into the sky, and as soon as they popped—POP!—the Light went to them. It was great. (After all, how often do you get a chance to see Mr. Bubble in action??? And not just any action—a Light action!)

After bubbles we walked the labyrinth, and then it was time to come back inside. We had a story time about Spiritual Warriors, where three Spiritual Warriors (played by our own Kevin McMillan, Karen Powell and Taty) named Roan, Bella, and Cristina. They learned about being Spiritual Warriors and practiced working with the Light for the highest good at school. We also saw a video “Moment of Peace” that shared about how important it is to ask for the Light to help us clear ourselves, so we can keep seeing people and situations clearly, like having a clean windshield when driving a car.

This special spa day came to a close with a final circle of Light, where everyone huddled up close and shared things that they learned. We called in the Light together one more time, and then we were off to our next Spiritual Warrior adventures — walking with the Light, sending the Light, and asking for the Light, always for the highest good.

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Thanks for being with us in this way, and lots of Light and bubbles to you and all you love, for the highest good. Come around and join us some time! We love you.

Our next spiritual spa day is scheduled for Saturday October 25, with Revs. Rinaldo and Maritza Porcile, called “The Power of Intention.” In the meantime, please visit Peace Awareness Labyrinth & Gardens during our open hours and we invite you to experience a Sacred Tones evening or a video seminar by Founder and Spiritual Advisor of MSIA, John-Roger, or John Morton our Spiritual Director. Find the schedule of events at peacelabyrinth.org.

God Bless Everyone
