How does one know they are truly serving God’s Will?

Article imageQuestion: How does one know they are truly serving God’s Will?

Answer: You really don’t need any help in aligning with God’s Will because there really isn’t anything outside of God’s Will. So when someone says, “I need some help with aligning with God’s Will,” it’s like saying the earth needs help aligning with its orbit. It doesn’t really need help with that because it’s already set. So if you look at it that way, then your relationship to God, wherever you are, however you’re orbiting, it’s in its place. Even if we dissolve and disintegrate, it’s still according to God’s Will because we can’t get outside of God’s Will.

God’s Will takes place through a state of perfection. In this perfection, nothing really needs to change. However, perfection has a quality so that it stays perfect even if it’s changeable. It’s that changeable quality that stays perfect. We can’t mess with perfection because then it wouldn’t be perfection, would it? Since everything is changing, you always have an opportunity to let go and allow for the change that is God’s Will.

In the scheme of God’s Will, it’s already set up like a law with that changeable aspect to it. And there’s a changeable aspect to each of us. The first law in spirituality is acceptance. I often find that’s surprising to people because what about loving? What about caring? What about doing good? Acceptance isn’t very dynamic. It’s like doing nothing — “just” accepting. What’s that about? Why is that the first step?

Acceptance puts us in the proper relationship with God’s Will, so that God’s Will is done in our experience. Does that mean sometimes? Or does that mean always?

From where I’m looking, God’s Will is always done. And what does that allow? Does it allow for us to have any choice? Do we have any influence?

We have a lot of choice. We have a lot of influence. So God’s Will is large enough to allow us to make choices. If some of our choices are not really the best, then that becomes how we learn in the process of completing our own learning as spiritual beings in this world. And that learning and growing is also integral to God’s Will being done.

The way I look at it is I join, as best I can, in God’s way of looking. I start out in acceptance so that what I see I look at as, “This is God’s Will.” God is not a God that’s punishing, condemning or mean. God is an all loving God. And whatever I look upon, I can choose to see as God’s love.

That’s a challenging intention at times, to look at a situation where there’s suffering, pain, or disturbance and see it as “This is God’s love.” Often, there’s a gap in what I see and am aware of and looking at it through God’s view as love. So the first step in serving God’s Will, in that situation and in any situation, is to accept.
