Peace Theological Seminary & College of Philosophy Graduation

Article imageFinally! The first graduation of the PTS Doctorate of Spiritual Science program! And the first time graduation was open to everyone, not just MSIA Discourse subscribers!

There was spontaneous applause as J-R and John Morton approached the stage wearing their graduation robes. They were to be “hooded,” an honor held for people receiving their doctorate degrees.

The hood for Peace Theological Seminary is scarlet, (Sacred Theology) and blue (philosophy) velvet with gold (science) cording outlining the edge. The back part of the hood, which drapes over the back of the graduates’ gown, is gold and green, symbolizing learning in the physical and spiritual worlds.

The graduation ceremony began with J-R receiving the hood, kneeling as John placed the hood over his head; then John was hooded by J-R. The graduating class of nine, including all three facilitators, was then hooded by John, receiving their diploma from J-R and hugs from both J-R and John. It was sacred and exciting at the same time; we were witnessing a very special moment in time.

The Masters graduation ceremony preceded the Doctorate graduation. Liz Bizby Garver, the PTS Academic Dean, announced that 314(!) students had participated in the Masters class worldwide, with 201 students graduating and 90 present for the ceremony.

John-Roger spoke to the graduating class. I heard him share that this program is about loving yourself, loving God with your body, mind and soul, and loving your neighbor as yourself. I understood that he was directing us to get out there and start sharing with each other and making the difference we each can make. I also heard that we are to set ourselves a priority of loving. I was in school, learning and growing, even during this graduation ceremony.

Students graduating with their Doctor of Spiritual Science Degree:
Liz Bixby Garver, Jean-Marie Hamel, Paul Kaye, Richard Mitz, Lin Morel, Rachael Morgan, Audrey Reed, Pauli Sanderson, Teri Tompkins.
