Walking In the Light in Chicago with John Morton

Article imageIf you missed the Walking in the Light workshop with John Morton in Chicago and wondered how it went, rest assured the event went off smoothly, filled with the warmth and Light heartedness for which the Midwestern community is known. For those of you who don’t know, and for those who enjoy being reminded, Walking in the Light is a unique MSIA workshop. It is a great way to renew one’s commitment to Spirit on a daily basis, and to clear from the events of the day. I love the exercises because through the exercises the willingness to knock on Spirit’s door is demonstrated, regardless of how the rest of the day works (or doesn’t).

The workshop itself was filled with about 120 participants from both Coasts and of course the local folks, which includes Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, etc. We were even blessed with a future Vermonter! As for the Rosemount Convention Center, the bathrooms were like miniature palaces and the staff simply amazing, willing, pleasant and most accommodating…and the food was good.

There were several things that made this workshop special. While the group was focused and intent on learning the exercises, there were moments of laughter, brightness and tremendous support for folks as they shared. If someone stood up and wanted to get the information absolutely clear, everyone held. John Morton held. In fact, each time John was asked a question he would contemplate and answer as if the question had never been considered before. This was enhanced by having both new and auditing members in the audience. Audits were just as willing to step forward and ask for clarification as the folks were who were hearing the information for the fist time, demonstrating to all that it is ok if Walking in the Light takes time to integrate. In fact, we all had a good laugh when one woman, finally clear on an exercise, said “Oh, that’s how it goes…I’ve been doing something different for years!”

With that kind of alignment, it’s understandable that the workshop wrapped up early, a nice way to allow long distance travelers to get to their planes. For the rest of us we were treated to a two hour Q&A, inspired by one of our wise participants who invited John Morton to stay.

During the Q&A, John spoke about the relationship of the Soul to the body, and also about how the spiritual community of MSIA can feel like a true family. Many nods could be seen around the room when John told a touching story of his own experience of coming “Home.” This, in fact, is one thing that makes workshops like Walking in the Light and each individual in MSIA so valuable: as we each participate in uplifting our world, through the Walking in the Light exercises or simply through loving thoughts and kind actions, each one we meet is touched and blessed.
