On Saturday, August 19th, we gathered at the 2101 Wilshire building in Santa Monica for the “Letting Go, Letting God” webcast class with John Morton. The Master of Ceremonies for the class was Glenn Barnett, one of the funnier people on the planet. He had us laughing out loud from the opening welcome, and he kept at it with some of his best material ever, even doing a rendition of what it is like for a person on a dial up Internet connection viewing the event — you had to see it to believe it.

Glenn explained a little about the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness (MSIA) and Peace Theological Seminary and College of Philosophy (PTS), the sponsoring organizations for the event, and then had us chanting the Ani-Hu, but very lightly, like a cool summer breeze on a shady porch.

Part of MSIA’s mission, as it were, is to take the Light with us wherever we go. We were treated to a couple of Moments of Peace video clips (home movies of the Traveler’s travels) from the Middle East, and then Glenn introduced John Morton.

John advised us that we had participants on the Internet from Singapore and Algeria for the first time, as well as North and South America, Australia, and Europe. John spoke a little about the current events in the Middle East, and asked for audience participation in invoking Light, and took requests for Light for all sorts of situations and circumstances. He offered all of it up as a prayer, letting God take care of all of it, and suggesting that we all just relax, have patience, and trust.

John pointed out that the opposite of Letting Go and Letting God is holding on, resisting, attempting to control, tension, pain, and stress. He made several references to books by John-Roger, including Spiritual Warriorand Momentum, Letting Love Lead, quoting the texts at various times to reinforce the ideas that God is in charge, and that we can look at our own beliefs to assess whether they are working for us.

We were encouraged to participate in an exercise of inner awareness and relaxation. From this reporter’s perspective, there were definitely angels and emissaries of God present in the room, soothing and healing everyone. We looked at Observation, a big key to Letting Go, especially of judgments. This was followed by a video clip from Words of Comfort for Challenging Times in which John-Roger spoke on Judgment vs. Acceptance.

Some sweet moments occurred while we listened to John-Roger’s “Meditation of Perfect Balance”, from the Joyful Meditations Packet, as each of us attuned to the inner peace and the blessings that were poured over us. This was followed by a Meditation from the DVD Journey to the East recorded by John-Roger at the Sphinx in Egypt, a very quiet and sacred few minutes that underscored the sacred energy of the class.

Towards the end of the program, John opened the floor to Questions and Answers, and as is often the case, the universality of the questions brought answers that everyone could use: “How can I be more with the Spirit while working in the world?,” “How can I get God to listen to my prayers?,” “Is Hope a useful tool?,” “How can I improve at Observation?” In all of this, John’s answers were powerful and very cool, as he reminded us that God does not give us anything we cannot handle, and spirituality can be quite practical in the moment. He placed a beautiful blessing with us all, and closed with “Baruch Bashan,” which means, “the blessing already are.”

Glenn Barnett returned to the stage with a few final announcements, and we were once again released out into the afternoon sunshine, whole and filled and complete.
