Further Adventures with our Great Blue Heron

This afternoon, while near Autumn’s gate at Peace Meadow, I saw a coyote standing in the road just uphill from the white Gazebo. He just stood there, not in a hurry to move or run away — understandably, as the sheep and lambs were nearby in Peace Meadow. Eventually Mr. Coyote sauntered across the road and went into the rocks on the West Side. Quickly, I got in the Mule and drove over to the West Side to see if I could see him.

Well, as I drove by the Island Pond I came to a screeching halt when I saw the Great Blue Heron perched on the fountain at the pond. Taking photos with a new camera, I took a few shots, and then backed up the Mule to get to a better location. I wasn’t sure if this would scare the Heron away, but he didn’t move and didn’t seem to mind me as long as I stayed in the Mule. So I continued taking photos, and then George drove by in the Landcruiser. I held my breath, wondering if the Heron would move, but he just stiffened and looked at George, but didn’t fly away. Eventually I drove a half circle through the oak trees to get to a better vantage point, with the Peace Pole and mountains in the background. Phew, he still didn’t move, and I happily took more photos, until….. the camera battery died!

So I went home, charged the camera, downloaded the photos to the computer, and took a quick look at the photos. Even though it was time for lunch, I was energized by my quest for a better shot of the Heron, so I grabbed the recharged camera plus another camera for backup, and went back to the Island Pond, approaching slowly, looking to see if my blue friend was still there. And thinking I’d be mighty lucky if he was still there. Well, to my delight, Mr. Great Blue had positioned himself in the best possible place, as if he were waiting for our photo shoot, and posing right next to the Peace Pole!!

Marveling at what a miracle this was, I got some great shots of my Heron friend, and also some with the crows and birds nearby. Then, to my astonishment, a Ewe (female sheep) walked into the picture!! OMG, the photo opportunity of a lifetime! I got one shot of the Ewe and Heron together before the Heron flew away. And then, another small miracle …. the Ewe’s two baby lambs walked into the picture! Truly a blessing to partake of such an incredible gathering of Peacemakers at our Peace Pole. Thank you, Lord.

What amazed me the most was that I had just set an intention earlier that day to make a little photo book of “Moments of Peace”, with our animal and human friends visiting the Peace Pole — and voilĆ , these visitors miraculously showed up for the photo shoot! While reflecting on the power of setting an intention, I remembered that I had adopted the quality of “Clear Intention” a couple years ago. Wow, such a great testament to adopting a quality in our Adopt-A-Horse program!
