Being of Service

Being of service to yourself and others is a spiritual exercise. Service is the highest form of consciousness on the planet because it includes loving. All loving is not necessarily encompassed in serving, but loving is usually the keynote of service. So if a person drops out of loving, they have also dropped out of service, and they enter into the mechanical method of doing. They are no longer serving, they are now slaving. When the loving comes back in, then the serving reappears.

John-Roger D.S.S.

One of my greatest love affairs is being of service with a pleasant disposition, so that I am truly present with my heart as I participate. It is fun to allow my gifts and talents to express freely, and to have life surprise and delight.

One reason I am incredibly at home in MSIA is because it is built on the foundation of service and loving. I often think that MSIA was made just for me because it is so compatible with how I am inside and how spirit works through me. I love the many love stories Iā€™ve heard about how J-R magically created a space for us to share our gifts, talents and abilities with each other as one with God. He is our shining example of service and loving majestically manifesting.

I recently found an amazing quote by J-R which says:Ā  Being of service to yourself and others is a spiritual exercise.Ā  There are so many rewards available in serving that put me in touch with the truth of who I am. When I truly serve from my heart, I am more aware of my Soul as a focus and loving as a living consciousness.

One of my favorite experiences on this planet is being in love. When I participate in the Spirit of service, I bring that ā€œin loveā€ quality present in what I am doing and it is an awesome practice. I find that I am more in touch with what is going on inside of me. I am more present, warm, open and connected to the flow of spirit in my life.

When I moved into Prana in December of 2009, my heart expanded and was on fire with the energy of Service.Ā  I volunteered in every free moment I had. I was on the Ministerial Board, assisting workshops, working in the kitchen, supporting the garden at Windermere, going to work parties at Arrowhead, listening to my fellow housemates, and whatever else I received as a call to action.Ā  Ā

For me another aspect of being excited about service is finding a balance. Prana is an active place and there is a temptation to get pulled into the chaos of doing constantly and loose the heart of service. My love for service is great and I have found that it is a challenge for me to be selfish and realize taking care of myself is a key to being of service. Transforming how I looked at service calls me forward so that I find ways to play with being and doing in as I am naturally in my own rhythm of movement.Ā  I am still working on this one and enjoying the dance.

I am learning that service is available on every level, which includes me, and when I nurture myself, I am being of service in a greater way, because I give from the overflow. I noticed that when I get into an attitude of overwhelm, exhaustion and plain old pissiness, it is time to be with myself and connect to the spirit inside of me.

For me serving is one of the best ways to stay clear because I have all my energy focused on God as God and thatā€™s all I have room for. I am grateful for this space where I receive an abundance of opportunities to be an instrument for Spirit to express through. I find that I spend more time in love than out of it when I serve with an open heart, so it seems imperative that I keep going in this direction that transforms me into a gift to give and receive. 1. I totally hear you!!! Service is where it’s at!! And Yes serving our self first is a must to continue to serve others! I really like the quote too….”Being of service to yourself and others is a spiritual exercise” When I am serving others I am serving myself. A little modification to a J-R quote: The highest form of play is service so just do it!
