Spiritual Parenting & the Spiritual Family were the focus of the September 11th, 2007 webcast with John Morton, spiritual director of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness (MSIA).

We were delighted to see the radiant Leigh Taylor-Young as our Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening, and she very graciously introduced herself, and called in the Light for us. Next, singer-songwriter Nathaniel Sharratt shared his newest song, “An Ordinary Love Song,” which had toes tapping all over the room. Nat is a joy to experience.

Leigh then spoke about the principle teachings of MSIA and its purpose, which is Soul Transcendence — to know ourselves as Soul and as one with God. We were then treated to two Moments of Peace, featuring young children sharing their profound wisdom about God.

Next, Jsu Garcia came forward to share about the screenings of the film Spiritual Warriors in London, and his enthusiasm was infectious, giving us all a greater vision of what the film is and can be.

Then Leigh introduced John Morton. John began by referencing God as the original parent. He also mentioned the Biblical commandment, “Honor thy father and thy mother.” He stated that parenting is the most important job on the planet, since each parent is standing in for God in his or her child’s life. He also recommended Forgiveness as a technique for healing of all parental relationships in our lives.

John began his Q & A (Question and Answer session) with a blessing (he’s famous for this), upon all relationships with our parents, and with God. Then, the first question came from a participant on the Internet about how to parent when the child does not live physically nearby. John’s reply advanced the idea of making every moment spent together count.

Another question had to do with how to maintain focus regarding projects and/or goals. John spoke about creativity, and using it wisely. Someone asked about the bullying that often takes place in schools, and John talked at length about bullying, and how to handle it.

In response to a question about choosing this particular (and significant) day, September 11th, for an Internet broadcast, we were given the opportunity to watch a video clip of the prayer which Dr. John-Roger, Spiritual Advisor to MSIA, gave at MSIA’s webcast on the Day of Prayer and Remembrance, September 14th, 2001 just days after the World Trade Center bombings. J-R offered up a heart-felt prayer for all of those taken, and all those left behind, a prayer for peace, forgiveness and compassion in the world.

A parent-to-be asked about how best to serve the child who is coming. John said to love who the child is, not who one might wish or hope they are. Another parent asked what to do about the worry she had for her teens in a dangerous city. Other questions dealt with learning to deal with negativity without being negative, and clear intention.

John advised all of us that there are lots of children in the world who are not being cared for, who could use some care, and that we don’t have to have children of our own in order to participate in caring for the children on the planet. At that point, John moved into the closing blessing (so sweet), and Leigh Taylor-Young came back with a few announcements to close the evening.
