John-Roger & John Morton Booksigning in San Francisco

Article imageOn December 8, 2000, San Francisco hosted John-Roger and John Morton at the Union Square Borders Bookstore for a double author booksigning and talk. It was a packed house this night, over 90 people filled the 3rd floor speakers’ area spilling out into the aisles. Alex Beau, a visitor from Washington, DC who has studied with John-Roger for 25 years, described the evening as “just like the old-fashioned cozy seminars John-Roger held in Washington, DC in the old days.” Truly J-R and John were in fine form reminiscing about their early days. It was a special treat to hear J-R talk to some of the new people who had wandered in, giving them a taste of what he “sees”.

John described how he was looking for his spiritual teacher in 1975 in San Francisco, hanging out in the Fisherman’s Wharf and Berkeley searching for answers to who he was. It was soon after this time that he met John-Roger and began his spiritual journey that eventually led to writing his first book, “The Blessings Already Are.” John shared that when times are challenging, we can ask for what the blessing is. John asked us: when things don’t go our way, do we bless them or damn them? If we curse them, we feed the negativity with anger and shutting down instead of blessing that which has come to us for our upliftment, learning and growth.

During a question and answer period with the authors, someone asked, “How do I know if I am on track?” I heard John-Roger say that the best way to know if you are going in the right direction is by your laughter and joy. Based on the level of gratitude and laughter in the downtown San Francisco Borders, I’d say a lot of folks were on track. Book sales were certainly on track–we sold out of books at 200 copies!

The next double book event coming your way in California is on February 13 at the 3rd St Mall, Santa Monica Barnes and Noble bookstore at 7:30pm. What a way to celebrate the Loving and Valentine’s Day. And of course, another great opportunity to pick up copies of “Loving Each Day,” “Relationships,” and “The Blessings Already Are” books to give as Valentine’s!
